This pub is my friend's local (when she's visiting her folks that is).sheothebudworths said:MY PUB RECOMMENDATION
A bit poncey tbf- but it has a nice beer garden if the weather's good and the food's nice too.

Little pub with dusty books all along the walls at the bottom of Trafalgar Street (same road as the Prince Albert but at the bottom of the hill) - really nice for a quieter drink. Almost opposite that is a pub called the George which does totally veggie (and rather nice) food. Those are usually my two haunts when I go down there.
In re: to cafes, the North Lanes underwent a bit of an explosion of organic cafes a few years back. However, if you find that sort of thing a bit pretentious there's a great (and busy) little cafe called Kensingtons on a little street called Kensington Gardens. I think from Trafalgar street you walk almost to the bottom of the hill and right along Sydney Street, and then when you get to the end of that it's the road continuing opposite, a wee bit to the right. If there's room you can sit on the roof terrace and watch all the people wander around below. Note, there are two places with roof terraces on this street, and you want the one at the far end of the road (if you're following those directions) rather than the one nearest you.
- but for future reference, The George and The Open House both let kids in too (well till banning hour - 7pm iirc - anyway).

She said it's quite studenty, though I've never seen any signs of that.

Yup, that's the one. I think it's called Kensingtons but I'm a little uncertain.sheothebudworths said:That cafe with the roof terrace that overlooks Infinity Foods yes?
It is indeed nice - I go there from time to time with me bezzer after a swim for a plate of beans on toast.![]()
I should remember what it's called.......but I don't....![]()

You're so predictable milesy.
I almost wrote it into my last post for you, to save you the trouble.
But I just couldn't be fucked.

Well, when you are veggie (or pescetarian), you're more just overwhelmed by the fact there's an entire fairly reasonably priced menu from which you can chose from with various things you'd actually consider eating, than to notice how it is a leedle poncy.Idaho said:Sigh - that was the Prince George, the best pub in Brighton until the owners got fed up with a growing smack problem and sold up. The new owners turning it into the veggie ponceria it is now
AwMs Idaho was always a Great Eastern drinker and I was always over the road in the George. We could sort of go out together, and drink in different pubs
Look, I am a really unobservant person which leads to various misspellings, OK?And you grew up in Brighton!

bluestreak said:no worries ms tanky. brighton used to be my second home and when i went back there for a visit last summer i was very depressed to find that a lot of my old haunts had closed, so i cannae give you teh lowdown you deserve, but it has a great scene. in most pubs you'll find dozens of flyers and magz detailing the city's activities and there is pretty much somethign for everyone there.

I saw Peter and the Test Tube Babies there for free a couple of years ago, and a whole day long thing of up and coming punk bands.

I used to work at the 7-11 that was on York Place - before that whole run of shops died. Used to be a lively little row.

the cocktails in the hotel bar were too nice for us to bother with elsewhere for drinking really
(but cheers to all of you anyway!)
but we did do a fair bit of exploring of the laines and other shops, and of the sea front too. an ace few days
