Brighton - 4th May

But I know one thing, the biggest problem any cause faces in gaining support is mobilising the masses that don't get involved because they don't really think it'll change anything.

I agree with this, and it's very frustrating. People who would like things to change, but think 'hey it'll never happen so whats the point in even trying?'.

Such a depressing way of thinking.:(

Cheers!

Mobilise the masses!
That'll do it sure enough.
If only we could get that right,
just this one time.

Enthusiasm and sacrifice
all for our good cause;
we must make them see that
this is what is needed now.

But what if they fail
to meet our challenge?
What if they have other ideas
of what is to be done and how.

Well, we'll order up a round
of heady pints of blame,
with consoling back slap chasers
and charge it to their tab again.

Do you have any idea how much money would be lost if any of what you said happened?
I don't care, tbh. People before profit should be an absolute.

We're just not going to see a movement with that kind of power primarily motivated by something as abstract (to people in this country) as the arms trade.
So again what you're saying seems to be that you don't believe it will change anything, so people shouldn't bother. I've got to wonder why you're devoting so much posting time to labouring the point if that's the case.

What's your point, caller?
the same reply could be made to the point I responding to.

You're dealing with people who sold to the Israeli government while they were bombing Gaza back to the stone age. As much as I agree with "People before profit", I don't think you're going to convince them any time soon.

So again what you're saying seems to be that you don't believe it will change anything, so people shouldn't bother.
All I'm saying is that the arms trade is, from the point of view of most people in this country, far too abstract to become a major issue.

the same reply could be made to the point I responding to.
What you said there actually didn't make any sense as a reply to my post. It's not like I was suggesting that SmashEDO are just picking on the poor innocent arms dealers for no reason.

Nah, I'm sorry. It's just very clear that dialogue between you and me is unlikely to go anywhere, as we clearly have profoundly different takes on the world.

That's probably depressingly defeatist, but it's honest.

Topical bump on this thread - the local paper, The Evening Argus has been ordered to hand over all video & still media from the May 4th protests

Per their website rss news feed http://www.theargus.co.uk/news/4649...r_Smash_EDO_footage_to_Sussex_Police/?ref=rss

" Sussex Police obtained a ‘special procedure production order’ under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 for images from the Smash EDO May Day protests in Brighton.

A judge at Lewes Crown Court granted the order for “all media containing moving and/or still images . . . published and unpublished of the march/procession/assembly/demonstration and subsequent disturbances which took place in Brighton, East Sussex on May 4 2009”. "
