Brian Haw Arrested Again

I am certain the govt will criminalise trespass
...Create a new criminal offence of intentional trespass, as already in place in the Republic Of Ireland. Trespassers who refuse to move after being asked to do so by a uniformed police officer will face arrest. At present, trespass (which does not involve criminal damage) is a civil offence - forcing the landowner to go to court. This will allow both squatters and travellers occupying property without permission of the landowner to be removed quickly.

What law would people like re. Parliament Square? Freedom to camp out indefinitely? Going to get very crowded. What to do when one group of protesters gets in the way of another.

Re. the arrest of Mr Haw. Stupid move by the police, and publicity gold for Mr Haw.

Boris Johnson, the mayor of London, has instructed his officials to seek legal action to remove peace protesters camping outside the Houses of Parliament.

The Conservative mayor issued a statement outlining his decision to apply to the high court to begin legal proceedings for trespass on the same day that David Cameron's coalition government announced plans to "restore rights to non-violent protest" as part of its 18-month legislative programme.

Last year, Cameron vowed to remove the long-standing peace camp in Parliament Square if the Conservatives came to power. But this was before he teamed up in government with the Liberal Democrats.

As Cameron's government paved the way for restoring rights to protest, which were removed under the Labour government, Johnson announced his intention to clamp down on demonstrators on the site opposite parliament.

Looking at the civil liberties section on the coalition website, most of that seems to be adapted from Chris Huhne's 'Freedom Bill' which was first described last year.

I note though that some of the Lib Dem's original plans are now somewhat conspicuous by their absence on the coalition agreement, namely:

• Restore the right to protest in Parliament Square, at the heart of our democracy.

• Restore the right to public assembly for more than two people.

• Stop criminalising trespass.

• Prevent bailiffs from using force.

I walked through the peace camp a couple of Saturdays ago. It's not an eyesore, it was all very neat and tidy and not even that big; I can't see why some politicians are getting their knickers in such a twist over it.

Our politicians don't like tourists to think that the UK political system isn't all fine and dandy - after all, they keep telling us it's the best democracy in the world! ;)

I would have thought that the politicians would have been happy to let the tourists see that this was the ultimate in protests lol :D

I reckon those tents were a job lot bought by someone's mummy. They're all quite new and they all match!

It is a power thing. Those politicians and the people whose interests they serve don't like a group visibly reminding them that all is not fucking rosy. And they have to see them daily, probably causes a little bit of dissonance to the bubble-world of central London high fliers

"Look, there's that berk in a funny hat again, shouting incoherently. He needs professional help."
From his POV, if you're gonna be a bloke in a funny hat, better a bloke in a funny hat who's splashed all over the BBC News. ;)

(They didn't broadcast much of his shouting, coherent or otherwise.)

Now Mr Haw says he wishes to remain in Parliament Square for the rest of his life. He has found his little niche and wants to stay in it. Beats working eh?

I doubt that he rakes it in..

Reminds me of some guru type in India, existing on donations of food and hash from travellers
