Apparently Aveley has been chosen as the venue for the final according to messages on the Isthmian League Facebook page, but I haven't found any official confirmation yet.

I wasn't too enamoured with the Brentwood fans I encountered when I visited, not that I'm going to judge all their fans on the twats I met.

It's a peculiar sort of town. I get the impression a lot of the locals have moved out of the East End and think they've done really well for themselves. All vulgar ostentatious affluence. I'd rather live in East London than live there, and that's saying something!

Does this mean we have a bye, as per the current thread heading? I suspect you mean 'postponed again'....

The use of 'cancelled' instead of 'postponed'...one of my many 'football hates'!;)

Sorry I was not arguing was wanting to see if it made sense written down.

I do not understand this bit of English, not my first language, and has confused me since I first moved to London and I have never worked out the rule.

I cancel my dentist, but as I need to obviously one day go to the dentist, I have postponed my first appointment not cancelled it. I am not never going to the dentist again. But the next time I visit the dentist it is a new session not a postponement of the one I did not attend.

If my train to say Lewisham does not run, the next one is a new train not a postponement of the first is it? They have no relation. But the next time we play Brentwood it is a new game, but also relates to the cancelled one, so the game was postponed?

postpone: cause or arrange for (something) to take place at a time later than that first scheduled.

cancel: decide or announce that (a planned event) will not take place.

The planned event, as in the match away to Brentwood Town, will still take place. Therefore the match yesterday WAS postponed.

In terms of football fixtures: if it's called off and rescheduled for a later date that's a postponement; if it's called off and never played that's a cancellation.

Pre-season matches are sometimes cancelled. We were due to visit Lewes for a pre-season friendly last August but it had to be cancelled because there was a burst pipe or something at their ground. The match was never played.

I would say a visit to the dentist is a one off appointment, therefore a new one must be made. So it is cancelled, not postponed, as there is no obligation for you to make a new one, that is your choice.

Your train is cancelled. The next one would be a completely different service. It can be delayed, if it is the one that was supposed to leave at the same time, but runs late.

The game may be new, but it is still the same fixture, it has to be played regardless of which day it is, therefore the tie has been postponed. Ditto with league fixtures.

I know this because English Language was my only 'O Level'! ;)

The event was cancelled but the fixture was postponed. But I can't be arsed to change the title.

    Far too simple. :D

Anyway, I'll change the title when the new date is announced.

Isthmian League website has it as next Thursday, 8th March, in their fixtures list. Sorry, can't insert a direct link with my phone.
