Breaking news: Arnesen suspended in Chelsea link

Can't see why Chelsea would want Defoe, he can buy a lot better for less money you'd imagine

Maybe he'd look at King, but not as a first teamer

Deluded sense of ability and class in those appraisals

Deluded magpie boy;)

Ledley can still be classed as an emerging player, such is his age. There's also the fact that he's a centre back and they tend to reach their zenith later in their 20s. He also has to clear up Timothee Atouba's mess a lot so forgive him if he makes the odd mistake.

Is there even the slightest possibility that Abramovich might follow fellow oligarchs of late and get tried in Russia for various improprieties?

haha

apparently it was on talksport that Chelsea are alleging we tapped some of their players up...

G'orn, tap it up! 2005 - the summer of tapping

(Surely if we'd been tapping up any Chelski players it would have been Arnesen that was responsible  )

But is Putin safe in power? Are elections forthcoming? (I'm not an expert on Russian politics.)

Well we need a goal-scoring central midfielder so do you reckon they'd take a couple of million for that washed-up has-been Frank Lampard?

I'd imagine that Chelsea, if they intend to be as big as a club like Man Utd, need to draw in as many new fans as possible. Obviously winning campionsips helps but I'd think having a decent number of English players in the team would help.

Seeing as we had five called into the England squads this season..............

So? I didn't make any comment at all on the number of English players you currently had. Obviously Chelsea have far more English players than Arsenal for example. Would you say though that it has never occurred to the people in carge at Chelsea that there might be a marketing angle in that?

It has to be said that the England squad for the American tour was hardly full of world-beaters (Zat Knight?).

I think that there is no doubt that both Raneiri and Mourinho were consistent in wanting an English backbone to the team and in Terry and Lampard they have that.Obviously there would be a large spin off if England do well in the World Cup for both of thse and Joe Cole, However most clubs see the far east as the immediate market to get leverage in hence the Chinese, Korean and Japanese players who are bought for their shirt sale potential rather than playing ability. They say that America is the next big market but they seem to be making a play themselves for ours with proposals to play NFL games at Old Trafford.
