Are there actual boat-related reasons why these are called deck shoes? I always kind of thought they were just shoes people bought to match their LaCoste polo shirts.

Yeah it's the miniature catenary ropes they have around the outside for tiny pirates to use when boarding them

Walking in deck shoes is a bad enough idea. Breaking in them seems suicidal.

Frank, they are as comfy as slippers once you get them broken in. They are not good looking but a step above crocs ( I had a pair of size 13 desert storm camo crocs with fleece linings, so I know what I am talking about)

Anyway. Thye are broken in. A dip in the adriatic and about 6 hours of twisting and bending and they are as soft as butter. I could go on a Yacht now and look the business.But I have never been on a yacht.
