Bread makers Y/N

There's your answer. You need scales to make successful bread, imo.
At first, yes. Once you've done it enough times, you know what the proper amounts *feel* like. Just a little bit too sticky at first, and they'll sort themselves out after a few hours.

Not if you're using a breadmaker, though, because it mixes the ingredients for you. And chances are if you're using a breadmaker you don't know what the right consistency is anyway. :)

:D

Get electric ones - much better and more accurate.

Avoid getting ones where the LED display is unsealed so water can get in . I'm in the process of getting my new Salter ones replaced. :p
If I get my replacements I will do the mod with silicone, photograph and put it on the web and email them with it. (and add it to my Amazon review ...)

Makes it something of a challenge when you have varying numbers of digits / segments working. :D

I'm trying to remember if there's any single ingredient I haven't left out over the years...

I even recently forgot the water - not all of it, but enough so that I ended up with toasted breadcrumbs . :D

Yup, drop me a PM to arrange collection, glad it will go to to someone who will use it.

As long as RubyBlue hasn't duffed me up already........:)

I am delighted to report that I am now the proud owner of a breadmaker, for which I am very grateful to ringo :D

Made some bread in it yesterday, in fact, and am dead excited.

My lodgers are also excited - perhaps they will make lots of bread that I can nick.

I do use a breadmaker. I just have the sense to poke at it about 10 minutes in to make sure it's the right consistency. ;)

On Friday I bought manual Sainsbury basic scales for £1.99 and they were so out it was unbelievable, but what did I expect for that price :D I now have electronic scales and the bread has come out perfect  The lever thing at the bottom didn't stick either - it stayed in the pan - I used gentlegreens reciepe and used a whole sachet of yeast and olive oil. Ta gentlegreen :) I set the timer when I went out this morning and came home to a flat smelling of fresh bread

Apologies for bumping this but I have a question for aqua - firstly - the bread is great - I absolutely love my breadmaker :) but - are you meant to clean the inside of it? if so, how? How do you look after yours? The pan itself is fab - so easy to look after - a quick wife after it's been used - don't know why I never bought one earlier - it is fab :)

glad you're enjoying it  they're great aren't there

as for the inside of the machine, I again just wipe it, although mine has some seeds that are pretty well welded to the bottom now :D

OK, I thought that was all that was needed I just wanted to check - and thanks again for the recommendation - off to eat bread now

Bump:

I just used mine for the first time. It's whirring away and beeping occasionally. :) Took less time than to boil an egg to get it going.

You'll never go back to shop bread. :)

Hot bread from the machine at 8am marks the beginning of my weekend - that and freshly ground coffee.

l like making challah - plaited with poppy seeds on top - show me the breadmaker that can do that - likewise rolls.

breadmakers can make any kind of bread dough (or pizza dough, dough for rolls, etc.) you just take it out after it's all set and shape it and put it in the regular oven. Still saves lots of time and makes far less of a mess.

The Panasonic SD256WXC seems to be highly recommended. It is RRP about £100 but this company is selling for £55.99. Ours was a gift from a kind Urban and works fine, really enjoying the fresh home baked bread.

Eating bread and jam witth my coffee now. Badgers, thank Kitty for me regarding her advice on it, eg it is a piece a of piss.

Well, my machine is still giving great results and since local shops started stocking the White Spelt flour, my loaves have been nicer & better risen than ever. :)

Want. Want now.

Disdain for the machine-trickery has given way to the opinions and experiences of contributors to this thread. Tomorrow I shall sally forth. To buy. Yes.

Want.
