Bread in the Fridge

nuffsaid said:
I only get small loaves, but I still won't be able to get through it before it goes off or stale.....hence putting it in fridge. I don't eat bread every day.

Marks & Spencer do a loaf of bread (6 slices ) for 79p :D

I had no trouble getting through it.

I'm definitely a bread at room temperature kinda guy, but since i've had a cleaner (yes I have a cleaner :p ) she puts our bread in the fridge every time she comes round.. since then i've thought hmm.. maybe there's something in it and so have been doing it more recently.. I dont honestly think it keeps it fresh any longer (it seems to dry out rather than mould though).. and yes, unless toasted, bread is just plain wrong cold! (although i think the old bird might have a point in the hot summer months....)

I will be keeping mine out the side from now on anyway.. fuck her

I would suggest you either stop eating bread altogether, or eat bread every day. Either option is preferable to the calamity of eating bread stored in a fridge. A further option would be to explore the world of individually sold bakery products, such as baps or croissants.

Hee hee - they're in the fridge as well. :D But you can't make toast from them so I have to have some bread about (in the fridge of course).

and crumpets....mmm.

You're unashamedly beyond redemption. I wash my hands of you. But I don't mind telling you that I fear for your future, and shed a tear for your bread and associated bakery products. :(

Fridges are usually airtight though, whereas I have yet to encounter a bread bin that is. So the fridge would keep bread fresher regardless of its temperature.

What is wrong with you people???

It makes the bread go SOGGY!!!!!

Every time you take the bread out of the fridge is absorbs warm air. You put the bread back in the fridge, the warm air cools and condenses, the bread turns utterly manky.

Just stop doing it. Right now. Don't make me tell you again. :o

Aye, but your breadbin isn't usually moist. And moisture is the enemy here - the added element which leads to mould and degradation of the bread.

People also tend to open their fridges on a much more regular basis than their breadbins, so any spurious 'airtight' defence doesn't really apply.
