Brand new Shooting Stars!

I didn't watch SS much when it was first on. Watched the docu thing before the one-off and thought it was hilarious. The one-off wasn't as funny though. Seemed a pretty random set of guests to have on, tbh. And yes, why couldn't they get Will Self or Johnny Vegas for it? I mean, it's a special anniversary one-off, ffs!

I thought the documentary was pretty embarrassing. The classic clips were great, of course, but the modern day characters were cringeworthy. It all seemed a bit desperate, like they were auditioning to get back on TV - it made me think of Alan Partridge dancing for the controller of BBC2. The one-off was fun enough, but they should have got Simon Amstell in as the new captain, and called him a "nifty Eighties throwback".

I agree with you about R&M doing the characters - the clips of the old show were great though.

And Simon Amstell would have been an interesting choice - but perhaps too much like rubbing Lamar's face in the shit? However, let's face it, Amstell can do no wrong.

I think Amstell's great, but I'm not sure he'd suit Shooting Stars because he needs to be the dominant persona on his shows. Lamarr was my favourite Team A captain because he was willing to keep quiet and let Vic, Bob and George just be totally bonkers.

It was a truly brilliant show, with an incredibly high joke-per-minute rate and never really knowing what was up next, the beauty being neither did anyone on the show.

"Jordan, I would describe your bussom as collosal."

Bob: "Macauley Culkin is a child, but can you name an adult?"
Ulrika: "Mark Lamarr?"
Bob: "No I'm sorry, it was Tom Petty."
:D

i was sooooo pleased to see them, and laugh at their stupidness. :)

agree with those who say George Daws is way better than anything Lucas has ever done since.

i loved it.

Was not bad and made me laugh a lot in places.
Not fussed if they just keep it to a one off though as it felt a bit tired in places.

I thought it was so brilliant.

I loved the documentary afterwards. The bit about asking Johnny Vegas to tone down his monologues.

I don't think I watched the Will Self ones that much but I really had a crush on Mark Lamarr when he was on it. It was brilliant that you didn't know if he was being really dry or serious.

I;ve read a quote that said he really didn't enjoy making that series, but he liked Vic and Bob, but he found it mortifying.

found what mortifying? that he liked Vic and Bob?

make sense girl dammit!

:D

Sorry I have a habit of writing like a stream of consciousness. Everything just falls out of my brain in a willy nilly order.

Here is what he said.

And Shooting Stars was strangely no fun whatsoever, because I was sort of playing a particularly moody, almost mute character and you end up just doing that... I mean it was always fun with Vic and Bob because they are old friends and it was nice working with them, but no, it wasn't fun

i do too, so shouldn't complain :D i was just being a pesky minx cos i'm frustrated at work and need to be silly.

thanks for quote darlink :) i'm glad Mark is friends with Vic and Bob. knowing that fact makes me warm inside.
