I hope you lemmings noticed who is sponsoring the petition?

Where is the option to say that you agree that this the correct thing to do?

I'm just amazed at all the lemmings who don't seem to realise this isn't actually true... For all their cry of individualism, U75 posters are just yet more sheeple...! :D

Where in the media has this plan been mentioned?

I can't find anything on the BBC web site?

Giles..

you're 100% sure it's not true?

Its strange this proposal isn't on the Internet *anywhere*. It would also be political suicide for Johnson, as well economic and political suicide for Westminister Council. (Smokers wouldn't bother heading into Soho for a drink...)

Does anyone have a link to this proposal, then...?
It's a review of The Endurance's licence, not a bill or similar.

Their grounds:
1 repeated residential complaint
The Endurance is a public nuisance
It encourages criminal behaviour and violence
The outside area is poorly managed.

It's pretty astonishing how many people will accept an outright and total lie by pk, simply because it supports their hatred of the new mayor.

not sure it's anything to do with Boris but here are the details, worth noting though he has poached a few Westminster bods to work for him, not something Ken would've ever done,

"This petition as been created by the licensee's of Soho. If you live, work or just visit Soho, and you are familiar with The Endurance Pub and want to support us against Westminster Councils objectice for a complete ban on outside drinking and socializing then please sign our petition. It is the councils intention to enforce a complete ban on outside drinking in all licensed premises."

Thats says that it is Westminster Council who want to ban outside drinking, not Boris.

If it happens I will miss drinking on Old Compton street on summer nights, nipping to the offy to get tins and not having to pay the silly prices in the bars. What the fuck are they trying to turn Soho into FFS!!!

Petition is signed.

It may be untrue but if so it is a serious rumour as I have been told about it by a couple of people in work. Could be just crafty advertising by the Endurance.

aye, its a westminster council thing that was on the cards before Boris became mayor.

they did this in Glasgow in the 90s making it no fun in the parks in the summertime.

Oxford has draconian anti-booze laws that are enforced by power hungry pigs
on mountain bikes hassling students

Know peeps who live round there, this battles been going on for years, Wminster Council are trying to "clen up the area" - translates as "Disneyfy" to encourage tourism - what you want more peeps rubbernecking making it impossible to get anywhere on foot?????

More or less the same thing now. Taking a look at the CVs of BJ's advisers it seems as though Westminster Council is taking over City Hall.

I have just walked through the west end and I noticed a couple of bars had signs up asking drinkers not to block the pavements. Is this an unforeseen consequence of the smoking ban?

ha looks like this thread was just bullshit:

"Sent: 17 June 2008 10:11:29
To: e-petition signatories ([email protected])

You recently signed a petition asking the Prime Minister to "resist the ban
on outside drinking and maintain the liberal culture of Soho."

A formal response to the petition will be sent to you, and posted online,
once the petition has closed.

In the meantime, you may wish to know that Westminster Council has released a statement on the subject of the petition as follows:

Contrary to internet rumours, Westminster has no plans to ban outside
drinking in Soho or in the city as a whole. This is an inaccurate and
misleading rumour.

Indeed, the council is actively trying to promote responsible
alfresco-style dining and drinking in certain parts of the city by creating
calm oases away from the hustle and bustle of the main streets.

We are, however, reviewing the licence for The Endurance pub in Berwick
Street following a long history of complaints from nearby residents about
noise from drinkers outside the premises. The Council has previously tried
to work with this pub to resolve this problem and we regret that this
review is now necessary.

The review by the council's licensing committee is due to take place on
June 26, 2008. We want everyone to be able to come to Westminster and have
a good time, but we need to ensure that the interests of residents are
protected and licensees must work with us to this end."

Of course it was, as is the majority of the 'anti Boris' stuff around here.

Most of civilised society is for/against something, its benefits to the majority of people are clear ... but because it goes against the grain of some of the lefty views around here, then it must be Boris' fault and therefore we must use it to expose something bad about him... we don't know what yet, but it must be a bad thing if Boris has anything to do with it.

I've seen similar long before the smoking ban TBH.
