Bottersnikes and Gumbles

fuck i remember them!

was thinking about them for some reason the other day, couldn't for the life of me remember what they were actually called tho...

that was the one with the "jam tins" wasn't it? confused the fuck out of me until i found out australians, for reasons inexplicable to me, put jam in tins instead of in jars...

i think my school must have had some job lot of aussie kids books for some reason, looking back there were loads of them...

channel 4 always seemed to just show australian kids tv too... anyone know what that was about?

I LOVED these books too! About 4-5 years ago I suddenly remembered them and sent a group email to all my friends asking them if they remembered them too and what they were called, and were the books real or had I taken too many drugs, and I got a flurry of emails all saying I was off my rocker. Luckily one person did remember them and told me the name.

I then attempted to purchase the books, but was told they are out of print :(

Would love to get hold of them again!

Not sure of the purpose of the thread but I am excited by the childhood memory!!! :D

Top. Fucking. Work.

Thank you for another huge warm wave of nostalgia....we are doing well for that on urban this week.

I have just recalled a very vivid memory of being dragged around Bracknell on a Saturday afternoon shopping trip and, to keep me quiet my dad bought me a new Bottersnikes & Gumbles book.

I found a quiet corner of the department store and hid underneath a clothing rack festooned with piles of womans coats. In this warm, secret and cosy den I ate refreshers and read my book - happy as Larry.

The gumbles were boneless and completely pliable as I recall - you could squidge them in to any shape you liked without hurting them and they could kinda squidge together to make a huge Meta-Gumble.....

Didn't the Bottersnikes capture them and squidge them all into a huge jam-jar?

:) :) :)

oh wow.
A teacher is primary school read us bottersnikes and gumbles without us seeing what they looked like. Then the whole class had to paint what they imagined them to be like. Except I hadnt finished my maths so never got to do the painting part. :(

The memories have been flooding back :D

They were such good books, kooky stories and great illustrations.

Out of print now but there is the odd one coming up on eBay and similar. I actually had a look on abebooks and they are NOT CHEAP at all!!!

I am pretty sure I have the lot somewhere but where among all my stored crap I have no idea!!

I did see those, the prices seem pretty fair by comparison. I am not in the market for buying any at the moment :(

I really want to get hold of them - quite a few people still maintain that I am making it up...

Ha ha, I have been banging on about them over the last few days and NOBODY has heard of them  Even asked a few mates of Australian origin and they had no clue!

We must be an exclusive clique

One of my friends said, when I sent a circular email to all my mates describing it, saying that I couldn't remember what it was called but it was something like "Flobbadangs and Gimbles", and asking everyone whether it was just an imaginary book which I had invented due to drug use or if it really was real and what was it called, that it was definitely the drugs talking.

Only one friend could remember it at all...
