Bosnia-Herzogovina, Czech & Slovak Republics, Hungary, Poland, Croatia

This bit is great:

Here, you’ll find some excellent examples of Brutalist architecture, such as the Vrelo Bosne (the spring of the River Bosna) and other Communist-era structures.

The Vrelo Bosne turns out in fact to be a tranquil and pretty nature reserve, but some part of me will still believe that it looks like the Barbican.

I went with my kids to Bosnia over new year and it was BRILLIANT. Sarajevo is pretty small which makes it easy to navigate and lots of guidance online about brutalist architecture etc. We did a self guided walking tour based on one of the sites. Had a day looking at Jewish history and another day pottering so museum, shopping etc. Went up into the mountains to ski for a day, its only about 40 minutes drive. I would strongly recommend a tour guide at least for the tunnels of hope museum as it doesn't really tell you what its about - we booked with funkytours.com and a great guy who had been involved with building the tunnels spent half a day with us, and took us to a little know flea market for my son to pick up communist tat. Happy to share any details if any of that was relevant but we had a ball and definitely plan to go back.
