Boris ahead 9 v 5 boroughs

He can't win it on firsts alone. They have to count the second prefs too.

Well poor reportage on the journo's part then.

No elections at all down here, we'll sticking with the one area divided by North and South, one militaristic junta, the other peoples paradise. Both seemingly never ending dictatorships...

I don't believe anyone is going to get more than 50% on first count! There were loads of candidates, and the highest turn out ever.

ETA I note that you have deleted the reference to Sky. Is that because you realise that they are full of crap? :D

I couldn't confirm it initally. I've restored it now, because a chat moderator I know has confirmed it

I can't get sky, I'm watching about 4 blogs and 3 chat room, and only reproducing stuff I know is reputable.........

Sky's main political expert.

Ah, so, because he predicts it, it must be true? Even the Tories are saying that the result won't be announced until the second preference votes are counted!

Are you sure someone is not just misunderstanding the system? Even if Boris does win the first preference votes, it doesn't mean he has won unless he gets more than 50%. Reports say that he has won 9 out of 14 of the first preferences, but, if he had got more than 50% the count would have been ended, and it hasn't been.

So much so, that you put it on several threads? Isn't that a bit spammy?

Besides which, I refuse to watch any video about that wanker.

You'll need to provide a link before I believe you.

Absolutely not. Wish I hadn't repeated it now, not that it makes any difference.

The count wouldn't be ended until every 1st pref has been counted. The thinking is the Boroughs with Boris ahead have a higher turnout- considerably higher- than the Boroughs with Ken ahead, so Boris is further ahead than it first appears.

I would have thought that the fact that they still haven't announced the result at 7pm suggests they're onto counting the second prefs. So the Boris camp can kiss that particular pipedream goodbye.

Why do all you lot call him Boris? Makes him sound kind of approachable, even likelable.
.

Having met him though work many times I have found him a most likable chap. However having met him many times though work I would not even trust him to get my office sandwich order.

He is a ditsy buffoon, if he does get in god help us all.

Boris the lovable drinking tory

Johnson the terrible terrible mayor. Please don't let it be so.

please.

sorry, it's already happened. 80% counted and Boris looks uncatchable.

The 'night edition' of the standard were claiming 'Mayoral Election Result - Boris Is Mayor' :hmm: Must be pretty confident. :(

Heh, Nick Robinson on News @ Ten : If Boris gets in it will give voters a chance to see how a Conservative government in power could be.

The Brent and Harrow result was predicted fairly early on. Some people are predicting dissatisifed Labour voters may have turned out to support johnson, but given their assembly vote to labour.

it looks like we might get the bizarre result of a labour assembly but johnson in charge. echoes of 1992 i guess.

so far i make it
ken 522,440
boris 579,690

and thats with most of the labour seats from last time already in except labeth and southwark
