Watching Cohen's past attempts at humour, I have found a man with a lot of potential, but without the substance or subtlety needed for comedy legend. Like his other alter egos, Borat seems to play it safe. Those out there who believe that his style rocks the boat in any way only need to watch an episode of "Mind your Language" to realise that taking the piss out of foreigners isn't exactly leftfield, mix a few of the safest of "Jackass" stunts, you end up with Sacha Baron Cohen's entire career.
It's funny. Of course it's funny. Stereotypes are funny. They are stupid, and stupidity is funny. But that is where the humour ends. It is easy fo Sacha to attack old fashioned politicians, gays, Asians and East Europeans, but can't you just read a Murdoch/Desmond publication to find that sort of tripe? It's also real.
But many may say that Cohen is attempting satire. This is crapp. You cannot use and confirm stereotypes to cement your place in Hollywood in the name of satire. All you succeed in doing is making a turgid overlong docufilm that is mildly amusing for the first half hour, and becomes extremely tired for the rest of the show.
