Where did you buy those? They are really gorgeous

Thank you. They're from Watkinson's, a local shop here in York. I have to say they're the most expensive pair of shoes I've ever owned. I have hopes of them lasting forever if I just keep changing the soles every couple of years. Before I never had shoes where you could do this but I hear that's the way to go.

Can I ask what make they are?

And are they as narrow as they look in the photo?

They're Watkinson's, their own make. They sell various brands but they also have their own line. I'm not very good with the narrow/wide distinction but I think they're narrow, 9-10cm across. Actually, I found them on their site, here you go. I can see the oxblood version too and I'm mentally kicking myself now.

The burgundy ones are also really lovely. And the black ones....

This might be one for moose...

In my eternal quest for motorbike suitable boots that don't fail in some respect I went to the DM shop in Covent Garden yesterday for a trying on session. The salesman was very helpful but they didn't have my size in the ones he suggested so they're sending them to me. They're the 1460 Pascal Ambassador. I also tried on a pair in stiffer leather but they were pretty tight over the instep.

I require 3 things from motorbike boots. Ankle support, soles with firm grip and being comfy to walk in. My current German army boots fail on the last. I have actually bought designated bike boots which are not grippy . I really need to not throw another pair into the expensive pile of unsatisfactory boots.

How grippy are modern DMs? The other stuff I can assess myself.
IMO you don't want motorbike boots to be too grippy, especially on tarmac.

1) when you lean over and the edge of the boots touches the tarmac you want them to slide.
2) if you are unlucky enough to fall off and are sliding along the road on your backside (if you are lucky) you will probably try to stand up while still sliding, if you have grippy boots you will end up on your face back on the tarmac.

Hm. The first scenario is never going to happen. The second is I feel less likely in town than me putting my foot down on a wet drain cover at the lights etc as I pootle around at 20mph.

Anyway, the docs came yesterday and are sublimely comfortable. I think the ankle support will be sufficient although I wish I'd asked about 10 hole ones while I was in the shop. I might go back when I get a moment. But there isn't a direct 10 hole version of these ones I don't think.

I once bought with my meagre savings a pair of Church's leather soled men's shoes in the sale and they lasted me YEARS like that. The mileage I got out of them was incredible.

I have a pair of Church's shoes that I bought in '92, that are still going despite regular wear. They've been resoled 7-8 times, & I had the stitching around the welt renewed, but the uppers are still fantastic.
