Can anyone recommend a water resistance product for brand new doc's?(greasy lamper) not for softening though, don't want them loosening just yet

in my 7th year of Meindls - ugly but the best boots I have ever worn -warm, dry. easy to get on and off....although half of the allotment comes home with me trapped in the sole.

I only ever wear boots - have not worn sandals since I was 6....and heels are a vague fantasy....but only to reach high shelves.

Right, so despite looking for fashion type boots, I went camping at the weekend and discovered that my waterproof gore tex army boots are no longer waterproof.

So I think I'd be better spending the money on a new pair of waterproof boots....

Suggestions please?

I hate Gore-tex lined footwear because they make my feet sweat so I always go for full leather lined boots. I'm sure I've recommended them on here before, but I like are Lowa Munro. Lundhags are a fantastic Swedish brand, but might be overkill for what you want. They're great for hunting/stalking and standing still in freezing peat bogs.

Berghaus Explorer Trek GTX are reckoned in a lot of the gear test comparisons to be the best lightweight hiking boot. Not the prettiest thing but I tried some on and they weighed nothing, very comfy. I bought the more expensive mountain going Salomon Quest 4d gtx and wish I'd gone for the Berghaus as they're great boots but a bit heavy and hot if you're not in the mountains.

shopping

Just bought these........not expensive or leather but will do the winter !

bit optimistic on my part...........after getting in last night and realising the reason i'm getting wet feet is because i have quite literally walked a hole through the sole and the whole thing is coming away from the foot part.............

Just checked back - 2 months??? - Take 'em back not fit for purpose - even if they were free - that's not enough use

Just used Grangers Waterproofing spray on my Boxfresh boots in Spiced, I'm sure they have darkened them, is this permanent?

don't want to risk same on my D/m's Will

This might be one for moose...

In my eternal quest for motorbike suitable boots that don't fail in some respect I went to the DM shop in Covent Garden yesterday for a trying on session. The salesman was very helpful but they didn't have my size in the ones he suggested so they're sending them to me. They're the 1460 Pascal Ambassador. I also tried on a pair in stiffer leather but they were pretty tight over the instep.

I require 3 things from motorbike boots. Ankle support, soles with firm grip and being comfy to walk in. My current German army boots fail on the last. I have actually bought designated bike boots which are not grippy . I really need to not throw another pair into the expensive pile of unsatisfactory boots.

How grippy are modern DMs? The other stuff I can assess myself.

The standard DM sole that that boot comes with is fine for urban wear, in my experience.

Rubbish at muddy festivals though, and if you are taking the bike to the countryside for an autumnal walk on damp, leaf strewn paths, you may not be impressed.

This was the genius of my last pair of German army boots, they were brilliant at everything and very comfy. I don't understand why this pair give me a tendon strain.

DM used to make brilliant proper bike boots, but stopped a few years ago, unfortunately. Some retailers still have the Faris boot but in limited sizes I suspect.

They make some 'extra grip' ones for winter. Women's DM's Wintergrip Boots | Dr. Martens
Surprisingly, I haven't got any, though, so can't vouch for them. They're supposed to be much better in ice and snow, if you're going to be riding in those conditions. They're generally the 'crazy horse' leather which will give better ankle support than some of the new-fangled soft stuff they use a lot these days, but not as stiff as the regular type. I think most of them have furry linings.

Solovair are slightly better grip than the regular docs, but are made on a narrower last, so might not work for you.

Ta. Those Faris boots wouldn't fit me. Fat ankles, need lace-ups.

RubyToogood i don’t know if you’ve ever looked at US standard work boot brands like Redwing, Thorogood and Danner etc but beyond the classic moc toes there may be something of interest. (Moc toes may be of interest?)
