Following Robbie Keane's move today, as well as Jermaine Defoe's recent transfer, can anyone think of many other players who played for a team in two different stints? The only names that immediately come to mind are Ian Rush (Liverpool), Mark Hughes (Manchester United) and Diego Maradona (Boca Juniors). Am I missing any obvious ones?

Jürgen Klinsmann and Teddy Sheringham. Again a Spurs thing

Don't forget Dazza Anderton....oh no wait, he never actually left did he, it was just that he was injured so often that it felt like a new start each time before he broke down again trying to trap the ball or run at a defender.....

ian holloway bristol rovers and qpr endlessly

He had three stints at Rovers - late 70s to about 1985/86 when he left for Wimbledon and came home via Brentford. Then 1987 - 1991 when he fucked off to QPR and 1996 - 2001 during which spell he retired.

Vaughan Jones played for us in two spells as well and Gerry Francis managed us (and QPR) twice.

Oh yeah, Bobby Gould managed us twice as well as having a separate spell playing for us.

Someone mentioned Steve Staunton who played for Liverpool, then Villa, then Liverpool, then Villa.

The legendary Gordon Cowans had three stints at Villa.

Graham Taylor managed us twice.

Can't think of any other Villa players at the moment.

In reply to this and an update on my earlier post .......

Steve Staunton:
86 – 91 Liverpool
91 – 98 Villa
98 – 00 Liverpool
00 – 03 Villa

Juninho at Boro:
95 – 97; 99 – 00 (loan); 02 - 04

don fucking hutchinson for west ham

Recored signing the first time was utter cak. Recored signing the second time was even fucking caker.
Heh he was our record signing when we bought him off ya an I remember him being pretty good!

Anyway, for Sheff Utd:

Brian Dean (3 stints I think!)
Billy Sharp (sold for £200k and re-signed a season an half later for £2m!)
Leigh Bromby (originally bought for £0 and recently re-signed for another £0!)

A little bit of wikipedia has just told me that Romario has had two spells at Valencia and Fluminense, three at Flamengo, and an unbelievable four spells at Vasco da Gama, although I think the Brazilian transfer system is slightly more carefree than Europe.

Brian Parkin had two spells with the Rovers as well. Not that any of you care :D

Alfie Biggs spent his whole career here bar one season at PNE when he replaced Tom Finney but was homesick so they let him come back :)

Paul Randall left for Stoke and then came back to us

Those sicknote gags. They'll never get old.

Maybe he did look good to you, but he was out of his league at West Ham!!:D

Anyway the boomerang player of recnt years is surely Carlos Tevez.

WHU>tribunal>WHU>tribunal>ManU>tribunal :D Just for you CR

Anderton's career ended in fine style this season - he'd announced he was retiring in advance of his last game and went and scored the winner in the last minute.

Good player.

He was. Venables did very well to incorporate him, McManaman, Gazza and Sheringham in the same team with such effect.

Blighted with injury though, always liked him but he used to always be out of the game for extended periods of time. Shame really.
