Books you think are shite

You know I just thought of a bit of magic realism that I initialy hated but came to appreciate on the re-read. Ahrundati Roy's God of Small Things.

Contains all the elements and style of something I would normaly hate on. But it's, almost haunting.

God kill me now

Just realised I haven't posted what I think is shit: most of Nick Hornby's books. God knows why I've read them all. Also, whilst I wouldn't call him shit, I found one book by Chuck Palahniuk almost unreadable, after the first story, the one everyone's already read anyway - Guts. I think the book's called Haunted. Please tell me his other books are better.

Anybody read the Alchemist by Paulo Coelho?

Read the first half because it was bought for me as a gift by a relative who raved about it's beauty and insight.

What a wank-fest, that's all I can say.

Reading Marquez makes me wish I was fluent in Spanish so I could read it in the original. Reading 'The God of Small Things' makes me feel inadequate in my own native tongue, it's that beautiful and haunting.

Has anyone read 'the Time Traveller's Wife?' Brilliant idea, huge potential, but very, very poorly executed after the first quarter or so. Another one I gave up on in disappointment. I think Audrey Neffunu-something-or-another's editor was overly indulgent.

Anything by Burroughs. My Idea Of Fun and Quanitity Theory Of Insanity by Will Self. Wank tbh.

Fathers And Sons - Turgenev. Especially the ending.

That book was shit. Just an exercise in self indulgence.

I've only read "Choke", of his other books, but that was better.
