Books of 2008

nah, I just don't kowtow to guardianista snob-lit for people who think The Novel is the greatest cultural achievment evar;)
:p

Neither do I mate. My books come from the local YMCA shop, 79p each :D

Although I do think the Novel is the greatest cultural achievement. You can blame that on a friendless childhood :(

George Orwell said:
For this and other reasons I was somewhat lonely, and I soon developed disagreeable mannerisms which made me unpopular throughout my schooldays. I had the lonely child's habit of making up stories and holding conversations with imaginary persons, and I think from the very start my literary ambitions were mixed up with the feeling of being isolated and undervalued

^^this is blatantly why science fiction is better than every other so-called literature:cool:

I haven't read enough this year to be able to answer the question. 2008 was a Bad Year For Books in the VP household (for me at least).

Because dotcommunist wants to say that people who read science fiction are outcasts and nerds and that makes them special, whereas everyone else who reads, collectively known as 'gaurdianista lit-crit snobs' (because they don't read science fiction) are all cunts.

Or something.

fuck knows what he is on about, TBH.

I am not going to compile a list to make into a poll or anything, but nominate here the books of 2008 that you have enjoyed.

My first nomination is The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz.

I just bought a copy of this on ebay. Was going to ask on here if it was a good read but my question has been answered

When you have read it, have a search for my thread, and bump it. I would love to chat with people about it, but I know so few people who have actually read it.

Although another good writer of SF (huxely) was an elitist anti-semite fucktard. So my theory is not watertight:hmm:
