Haven't even had a chance to camp in it yet. :(

Same here. Poor old Bongo, poor old us :(

They are now out there

My mate has just bought one

My dealers mate is getting one

A friend is trying to convince hubbie to get a van rather than a car so they can get away

:)

Bump

I bought a Bongo yesterday.

Looks very much like ICB's. Did have some big bars on the front and a side awning, but I removed them today.

Next job, remove purple stickers and give it a good clean.

Still reading up on stuff and not made my mind up about seating arrangements yet but the centre table sounds good. I imagine we will get rid of one of the back seats, ours has the fold up to the side type.

Blimey.
Talk about learn something new etc.
I had never even heard of a Bongo before reading this thread.
Genuinely suprised at myself :o

Nice one:) welcome to Bongoworld

Sorry, thats a load of rubbish.

Its not a proper camper or a people carrier. For 3.5k you can get an old but decentish, fully equipped and nice camper with full cooking, loo and shower.

Who'd want a toilet in their van?

For that money, you'd get a crappy old Talbot or something, which costs a fortune to run.

I have to say I'm not struck with the Bongo fever that seems to pervade Urban. They're very small and the fact that the majority of them seem to be permanent 4WD means they're not that hot on fuel consumption IMO.

I walk past where they store the imported ones in Southampton everyday. they are very cool. Wouldn't mind one actually

I think the compactness is a large part of the attraction - if you get a great big motor caravan you can't so easily use it as your day-to-day transport, whereas with a Bongo you can.

I suppose the 4x4 bit is useful when camping in muddy fields and driving down dirt tracks etc. ANyway you can get them without 4wd if you want to.

Giles..

My reasons for settling on a Bongo are much the same as others.

My mates is running well and there's a load of knowledge on the Bongo site so someone will always have come across any issues. The reckoning there is that there is little difference between the fuel consumption on a 4wd and 2wd and there's a good thread where a fella has got his up to 40mpg by making small adjustments that don't cost much. Will also be using a bit of veg oil in mine I reckon.

A bigger vehicle would be nice. I'd go for a big Merc truck if I could but it's not practical for my Mrs to drive to work even though she won't do it everyday. Bongo's are like the VW camper for people who want reliability at a reasonable cost I suppose.

They are nice vehicles those Bongos. I still prefer my Enema

Even though it just cost me £2k to replace the engine head.. doh!

It'd cost you that in petrol to get it to the lpg conversion station. They drink like....like.... well, me!
(I can't believe it's only done 53000 miles in 25 years, either :D )
And it's beige :p

*Hands moose a straw hat*

What I'd really like is something the size of VW Transporter - not huge but I just wonder if I'd get claustrophobic in a Bongo.

We have a side conversion so the bed space is narrow, but we are small

Sat in it all day at the Beat Herder festy when it pissed it down, and then the space was ok as I sat up and the missus put half the bed down and lay about, as she does

We also have an awning off the side and this means we can sit in that when it ain't freezing

Love it

:)
