Bombing of Yugoslavia -10th Anniversary

There's an even simpler explanation. It was the only other thing I'd read about the 10th anniversary, the paragraphs I quoted summarised my own perspective on what happened, and the fact that it was primarily a well written rant getting stuck into the nationalist leader in Scotland and his murky motives was an added bonus.

I really don't think being a university professor amounts to impeccable credentials!

so this is an excuse to have a go at a politician you dont like then?

nice

No, but his work makes it clear that he's not 'gung ho' bomber. Quoting him in a manner designed to try and justify the bombing of Belgrade and Serbia gives that bombing rather credible cerdentials.

As I said earlier, the blog post I cited had a couple of paragraphs summarising a different perspective of the lead up to the events discussed, and that is why I posted the quote. It would have been impolite not to give the link.

But it is an interesting blog post, and I thoroughly dislike our nationalist leader, who often gets an easy time from people here, so I was glad to point other readers here to the post at Harry's Place, which I gather many of my fellow U75 don't always read.

In my instance that's because I have little desire to hear the screaming denunciations of a bunch of intolerant and none-too-honest self-appointed crusaders. I'd rather listen to the opinions of a troop of monkeys.

ah, the rantings of the pro-war, imperialist "left" - oh we're so rebellious we're going to go along with whatever the government says - because that's the REAL anti-authoritarianism dont you know? maaaan.

That's entirely possible.

These days I need a couple of days' notice before actually accessing the site. Otherwise my hands just refuse to hit the appropriate keys.

They're not not rebelling against the government, they're rebelling against the rebels. Subtle difference. :)

Ah, OK. Well, I never thought it either funny or interesting, and it's become even less so.

The comment boxes of course make P&P look like the Academy at Athens.

As indeed do most of the postings.

The comments are as bad as those at Guido and give the blog a bad name.
There is, however, a reason why they attract that sort of comments and that's the style and tone of the blog itself. Not necessarily the viewpoint. I disagree with that, but that's not the be-all and end-all. It's the way they go about their business. It's foul.

you cant criticise someone for using stuff like this to attack someone or bolster their own credentials andthen do the exact same thing yourself, this makes you different from salmond how?

You know, not all posters here are as measured and sweetly reasonable in style and tone as you and I. We still come here and collogue, though, and often the results are well worth reading.

Yeah. But the point about this (as opposed to a blog) is that here I can always switch to another thread. Also, here, it's not actually the people who run the site doing the screaming and denouncing.
