some posters just don't get irony, sarcasm or humour unless you put about a million smilies in your post to make it clear for the hard of thinking, cheg.

Anyways, mash, chips, boiled, fried. Potatoes- yum. :)

(Sorry)

I'll leave you guys to it, this thread was making me hungry anyway.

hmmm, boiling a potato is a waste of a perfectly good potato. Unless you have got greater things planned for it (ie mashing or par-boiling for roasting or dauphinoise or topping a nice pie).

If I were a potato I'd think my entire existence had been futile if I were eaten boiled.

*Unless it as a new potato of course, in which case a bit of of butter, mint, salt and pepper and jobs' a good un. Especially if you let them go cold. mmm, drool.

sorry for the bump on the thread :(

yesterday i was feeling a little creative and had mashed potatoes in the meal.

i remembered this thread and added fried onions and garlic to the potatoes prior to mashing.

it's been a while since i got raves on my potatoes, but i admitted that my "brainstorm" came from reading this thread.

hubby and the kids wanted me to express their gratitude.

they will ask me if i said thank you and i hate lying to them so -

THANK YOU !!!!

:D

as soon as theyre boiled and drained chuck a load of herbs like mint in the saucepan with your potatoes and stick the lid back on and put it back on the cooker where its going to be quite warm but not too hot and leave for at least 5 mins, the herbs will infuse the potatoes much more strongly

My favourite thing for a new potato is roasted with whole cumin seeds, sea salt and olive oil. If just boiling, then gently smash each one with the back of a large spoon (so the skin just bursts and the potato opens a little, and put a knob of butter inside. Then ground some pepper and chuck over some whole sea salt. If you're feeling fancy, you can use garlic butter.

Only new potatoes.

My suggestion is: pour some gravy over them.

Which reminds me of monday dinners as a kid: Cold roast leftover, boiled tatties and cabbage (or cauli). Ugh. nowadays I'd only boil a new potato*.

*Unless I intended to mash it. :p

I love mashed potato mixed with grated cheese  And if I've got the time I'll bake it in the oven with more grated cheese on top till nice and golden brown

May I suggest a very simple thing that I have been doing that is boiling potatoes in a steam tray either in a pressure cooker or normal pan with one of these things that sit in the bottom of the pan.

The reason is that the potatos have no contact with the water, and keep their shape and don't flake apart, and have a much nicer flavor, because it is not all washed out by the water. Can be very nice just on there own hot or cold.

Or you could just boil waxy as oppose to floury potatoes. Numbnut. :p

I dunno about boiled potatoes, maybe if they were new potatoes in which case I'd just season and eat them with some of that smoked garlic mayo they sell at certain supermarkets else make your own if you can be bothered :)

Otherwise I'd deffo mash the buggers... mash rules!

My friend had an exchange student from Norway, she would serve boiled potatoes with meat patties (big meatballs :) ) which she spiced with nutmeg. Then make a big pan of Bearnaise Sauce and pour it over the whole thing, excellent!! And Knorr makes a great Bearnaise Sauce packet mix thing which is as good as any I've had from scratch, it was fairly filling but tastes reeeeeally good!! :)

A nice way to spice up boiled potatoes is to boil them in their skins, then let them cool a little & peel them. Heat some olive oil, add a chopped chili & some mustard seed and fry off till the seeds pop (mind they dont go in yr face) - then toss the potatoes in the mixture till they are lightly sauteed. it is lovely with a curry

On behalf of all makers of bearnaise sauce, I apologise for those of us that are unable to produce a decent bearnaise sauce. If it's any consolation, there are many high-quality sauciers around, you just have to look for us ;) :p

Out of interest, what recipe do you use to make bearnaise sauce?

p.s. I have had that bearnaise sauce packet - I'm not a fan
