Threshers have had a buy 2 bottles of wine, get the third free offer for months now. Can't remember the last time we ever 'only' had 2 bottles of wine in the evening.

I've had a major disapproval of this practice for quite some time. All the major offy chains do it on just about every alcoholic drink. Although It's probably inaccurate to suggest these offers directly lead to over consumption of alcohol, I do think they play a good part in starting people off down the road towards drinking more than they intended.
We have an independant off license nearby which I visited recently and was suprised to find that their individually priced cans/bottles actually worked out cheaper than many multi-buy 'offers' at Thresher.

Thats something I've noticed as well, I would have mentioned it before but this thread has too much to deal with as it is :D . Getting eight chicken breasts for a £1 is far from a ripoff.

A damn good idea :)

But you actually get 8 chicken breasts for MINUS £3.99  - they actually pay you for taking them off their hands!

(2 x reduced-to-£1 packs = £2. £2 - £5.99 = -£3.99!!)

Threshers isn't the cheapest place to get drink by a long run. You can get passable wine on their offers, but when they sell beer, it's a rip off.

nice idea but wrong, in fact its sometimes even better than that......

1 x reduced £1 pack of four + 1 x free unreduced pack of four at £5.99 = -£4.99

but actually because the true value of the unreduced free pack is actually £2.99, going on the above sums you would only really be in profit by £1.99!!! :D

Nope I'M right! :p

At full price they charge you for both packs at £5.99 and then take £5.99 off the total. = £5.99

At the reduced price of £1 they charge you for both the reduced packs (£2) and still take £5.99 off the total = -£3.99

Thats not what I've experienced, buying one reduced pack at £1 gives me a full value unreduced pack at £5.99 free, therefore I'm skipping gleefully through the Sainsburys gates of joy with eight chicken breasts iin my hands for a quid! And if we must get into profit margin figures that actually means I'm £4.99 in profit because I havn't spent £5.99 for eight but just a £1 :D . Amazingly that works out at 12.5pence a breast, now thats good shopping!!!

And yes this is incredibly silly but also somewhat interesting :D
