BOGOF bollox!!

If you don't want to have the free packet, don't... but don't then slag off the supermarket for trying to give you something free given that 4 chicken breast fillets is £5.99 all the time and is similarly priced at other supermarkets.

but they are not giving me anything for free, they are simply charging people for eight breasts rather that charging for four which is what I and probably many other people sometimes only need.

Also, thats rubbish about four breasts always being £5.99 at supermarkets, my local was recently doing nearly out of date ones (not reduced red tickets) for £2.99 which by my calculations should be the proper and honest price always.

Did you pluck that price out of your arse?
:p

I can't recall the last time I saw 4 chicken breasts for £2.99, aside from in Iceland. And I'm going to discount them; their chicken breasts are tiny and often those strangely slimey chicken pieces taken from some unspeakable factory in Thailand.

Typically you're looking at over a £1 a breast down here, with a pack of 2 breasts often selling for £3-4 in the city centre 'metro' stores.

You can get cheaper down the markets, but often they're defrosted breasts from some pretty dubious sources. If you're lucky a decent butcher should be able to match or beat a the supermarket's prices - despite all that buying power, it#s amazing how often small stores can beat them for price.

a few weeks ago in morrison's in peckham i bought a pack of four nouvelle toilet rolls, for £1.59. at the checkout, the girl said "that's buy one get one free" so i went and got another pack - basically an extra 100% free on my purchase.

is this a scam? :(

no, they are charging you for 8, nothing is free, and buying just four for their true value is impossible, its not that hard to figure out.

Am I the only one here that thinks £6 for four chicken breasts is a ripoff?

Yes! :D

As tarannau has already pointed out, as tasteless and dry as they are, chicken breasts have always been an expensive cut of meat (which is why I only buy them when they are on bogof :p ).

Which Sainsburys was this anyway? If not far, I'm going to go there and claim your free chicken.

yum

Tunbridge Wells. Make sure you tell them its the guy that never accepts free stuff that left his free chicken breasts that he had to pay £3 for on the 4th aisle down opposite the sausages and bacon.

Actually could I charge you £3 for my free £3 chicken breasts I didn't take, then we're all happy! :D

So when the BOGOFF offer ends, they'll return to the 'original' price of £5.99 for four, so that'll be fine then? :)

Well I wouldn't pay that much for four...........But then again, if they did a 'buy one, get one for free' offer, I might just be tempted. :D

no, they normally return to the real price of £2.99 for a pack of four, which is what they do when some of these bogof breast deals are nearing their best before date only not with a reduced red ticket on them, but a huge great 6ft placard saying "HALF PRICE CHICKEN BREASTS"......only they arn't half price are they......... oh dear god what have I started? I think I'm going to cry!

Oh deary deary me  :(

:D

I would like to be you.

I would like to lead a life that was so stress-free that I had to get irritated about a bloke in Sainsbury's, who probably has PLENTY to be irritated about and was just trying to be helpful and nice, trying to get me to take my "free" chicken breasts.

On balance, though, I think I'll settle for the life I've got. Anyway, I'm vegetarian, so I don't even EAT chicken breasts, and I think they look and feel nasty.

i've got a cockerel here if anyone wants it. i've turned in to a veg and can't bring myself to kill the poor bugger. he is for free and will probably taste very nice. his name is pok.

Just making a point, its a discussion forum, you'd be surprised what rubbish gets discussed round these parts!
:p

is that free or if its Sainsburys style "free" do we have to pay over the top for anything else to get our "free" pok cockerel?

:p

I am a real avid bargain hunter (also know as Tightus Arsholeus), and as such, regularly aim for BOGOFF deals, and I have never ever seen the price suddenly shoot up double right before the deal comes in, and then return back to the original price as soon as the offer ends.

As much as the supermarkets are known for their scrupulous and dubious ways to get customers to walk through their doors, the practice that you're trying to convey is, I think, actually against the law. That's why I'm totally surprised that not one of the millions of customers that frequent there have reported them for it.

no he really is for free. he's fed on good quality corn and layers pellets. i'm sure he will make a good accompaniment to some roast potatoes, carrots, green beans and gravy. paxo would probably help too.

Best bet with the BOGOF chicken in Sainburys is to wait until they are in the reduced to clear section and then take as many as they've got.

They just knock 5.99 off at the checkout for every 2 packs you buy, even if they've been reduced to £1.

So you can actually make money!

Sounds like a bit of a "buy none, get one free". Are you just TRYING to piss Rosco off???? :D

yea I think Mungy is, I want nothing free unless I have to pay for it :D , otherwise it would be just plain ridiculous!

Thats something I've noticed as well, I would have mentioned it before but this thread has too much to deal with as it is :D . Getting eight chicken breasts for a £1 is far from a ripoff.

A damn good idea :)
