No EJ, I'm afraid that your judgement is quite wrong, when it is (usually) reasonably acceptable. Go and buy Donald Byrd's 'Places and Spaces' and listen to it over and over again until, eventually, youget it.
A dilemma I'm sure for many of our po-faced types, with it being a staple of such a detested genre and yet a sampled touchstone of so much "authentic" music.

Bob James knew no irony in his composition or performance.
Liking it 'cos you think it's rubbish is ironic, but also weak. It's generally the first embarrassed step to just admitting you like something anyway though.
It is entirely possible to like something and feel it's ridiculous, even for the ridiculousness to be part of the reason you love it and our old friend irony not to be involved at all in that relationship.
