BO first thing in the morning - UGH

i was forced downstairs on a bus after two girls got on having bathed in perfume. it made my eyes sting and my throat close. i felt i was being gassed.

i would have preferred BO to over smelly perfume, aftershave, de-oderant etc.

it works both ways.

what you actually need on the tube is air management.

yuk - what a choice - BO or throat wretching perfume.....

BO makes you feel sick - perfume makes it difficult to breathe.......

It was a funny moment.

Because, whilst I thought - that is wrong - humiliating someone in public - I also thought - getting on public transport with appalling personal hygene isn't very nice either....

I didn't know what to make of it!?

So I laughed - not loud but to myself....

Saved one of his work colleagues or mates from stating the stinking obvious to him.

used to work with the smelliest man in the world.

It was awful - you could tell when he was coming - it really was that bad.

None of us had the bollocks to say to his face wash please...

So someone put a note in his pocket - it was pretty polite.

The next day he came to work clean as a whistle. Within 4 hours of being at work he was back to his stinky self...

I felt a bit sorry for him after that...

It must have been some freak condition he had?

I've got a real problem with too much fragrance too. I've worked with a couple of women who I can only conclude had some kind of obsessive worry that their fannys really smelt or something. Consequently they drowned themselves in some kind of all over body fragrance stuff that made being within 3m of them a really uncomfortable business.

Apparently the French used to uhave the lowest soap capita consumption in the world.

Some trains have air fresheners installed - on the Antimaccasars on the Trans Pennine route - and so called "aroma boxes" on Midland Main line.

For metro and heavy suburban use its a damn good idea - in 1996 when I took over what is now Silverlink Metro - I couldent believe how bad the trains were (smell wise) - ingrained dirt and the stench of unmentionables and Jeyes fluid in the corridor connections where certain uncaring people used to relieve themselves and throw up.

Anyway - we did a major heavy clean on the fleet and raised the perception and ambience of the line at a stroke - the trains really did smell better and I think we got less vandalism as a a result. You would not believe however the things people do to trains .......

i had a taxi driver whos breath was rancid, and he kept doing the windows up because "it has air con"

you conned my air u bastard!

Poor man.

I'd rather sit next to someone with BO than someone who'll humiliate someone else publicly.

I totally agree. Nasty bitches...Would they like it if someone said "God, your bleedin teengae acne is getting on my tits, move please so I don't have to look at it"?

You're hardly gonna die from it, just breathe in your mouth or move...

Where are you born, per chance?

There is indeed a number of conditions that can make you stink & sufferers find that no amount of extensive personal hygene can hold them at bay entirely.

Sadly, they aren't that freaky either, quite common. :(

What are they?

Can't remember all of them but Liver & Kidney conditions, dietary problems, diabeties (both from condition & treatment), infection, alcoholism, some cancers & certain forms of STD can cause you to stink.

Where was I born? Why? wtf does that have to do with the price of peas? Or just being facetious?

Being a bit facetious but also raising something I've noticed. I was wondering about attitudes to smell, because we've had quite a few threads on personal hygiene and it seems to be more acceptable in the UK to wash a bit less than my home country and to not wash clothes as much.

Well I don't know about that really. London, in particular, is multicultural, and as such has lots of different cultures' washing habits. Depends on the person really, so I think that's probably a generalisation.

My annoyance is with rudeness/bullying as opposed to smelling, which is the lesser of the two evils...

walking to work in london is

i hardly use the tube at the moment, in peak time anyway, so haven't needed to endure the odour :)
