Bo Diddley RIP

I saw him at Dingwall's in the early-'80s and it was one of the best gigs I've ever seen. The solo that saw him scratching round the body of his home-made guitar, without touching a string, has stayed with me: the kind of attitude that made John Cage a hero of the avant-garde. One of the most creative and imaginative artists in rock and roll.

Oh, and some of the songwriting was blinding as well: 'Just twenty-two and I don't mind dying' remains the best one-line summary of rock mythology.

"The Dutchess" may have been better looking but Peggy "Lady Bo" Jones was the original, better guitarist and performed on Bo's famous recordings from 1957-1961/2.

All academic now I suppose, RIP Bo :(

:(

He was one of those musicians I'd occasionally hear a song from or see a video - but never sit down and listen to a full album. Wish I had put more of an effort in now. :(

His guitar sound seemed to be all right hand, not raditional solos

not many left now is there? makes me more determined to catch buddy guy while he's still about...

Buddy is still a kid in this game.

My user name is totally to do with Bo - The YARdbiRdS, their rousing numbers were Smokestack lLghtnin' (Howlin' Wolf), and

**I'm a Man **( McDaniels )

Hey man, I put on one of the best gigs you've ever seen :D

:( Sad news. Huge influence - pretty much invented the power chord riff and wrote some ace songs. RIP Bo.

true. he is, however, still alive... there isn't a whole lot of others from the 50's rock n roll boom knocking about is there? i guess little richard is still looking good, but i dunno if he's still performing. and cliff, but he doesn't really count...

Sad news, he was a legend and wrote some classic blues songs as well as being a major influence on many 60's bands.

Just seen this. What a legend, really sad news. Peel used to play old songs by him quite often in the 70s and 80s ...

Deb's a rock and roll lover and will, I'm sure, have some of his stuff ... will listen ASAP.

Bo Diddley buy his baby a diamond ring,
And if that diamond ring don't shine,
He gonna take it to a private eye,
And if that private eye don't see,
He better not take that ring from me....

what a fantastically gifted, ebullient, musical man
