Used to be a strong and influential group based there, who did courses in Sikh studies;inc,uding o'level and a'level.
Haven't got hold of the book today, however bit of a dodgy intro: Sikhism apparentely was one of the founders of Socialism & Democracy(Western Concepts) and the true inheriters of the Aryan Race. Ther course also claimed that its was right for the Sikhs to support the Britishers(their dialogue) in the First Indian Uprising 1857 but to fight aganst the British after the massacre of Amritsar 1919. Much of this in which Sikhs were involved in (Baghat Singh possible exception) including INC/Congress was established and to a certain extent guided by westeners Alan Hume, William Wedderburn were founders, M. Ghandhi western lawyer guided by christian and possibly Burkean concepts, both Nehru, Jinner and a whole lot more Oxbridge educated.
Don't know much about there position on *halistan or Bluestar Operation only that they were extremly critical of it. Not sure if it was the same group, but compared Bluestar to a Holocaust.

The majority of people involved in Lalkar are Sikhs, their were Sikhs involved with Panthers UK in activities that AFA,and from what i've been told were very active in Southall around ANL.
Also quite heavily involved in industrial disputes and developed quite a strong tradition in places like West London form industrial disputes going back to Sky Chefs to Gate Gourmet recentely.
Recentely following on from I. Ghandhi's victimisation(and assasination) around regional politics in Punjab, J. Bhindranwale's occupation and 'martryedom' many Sikhs quite a few of them young people have been sympathetic towards more reactionary ideas around this apsect of recent events. From the perspectiv of many Marxists I suppose this follows an international trend of dissaffected people(large middle class population of people who have high standard of education, relatively high unemployment among this group) turning towards religous fundamentalism, reactionary/romanticised nationalist movements & modern/revised market orientated economics.
A lot of Sikhs I have quite a racist attitude towardss Muslims, especially Pakistanis that would put any member of C+mb*t 18 to shame. However according to Council Of *halistan in it's Congressional Report has shown sympathy towards Khashmir Nationalists. Bit this may be just a whim.

They shouldn't have had anyone on. It's a small story unless one is fascinated with fascism and racism. The idea of openly joining any party to effectively destabalise it is a non starter - they can refuse membership to such a person.
The BBC should cover small stories from all small parties or from none if they are to be proportionate and balanced. They don't and they are not. Racism sells. I am far more annoyed that every twist and turn the fascist party takes is considered as news than I am about my own squad getting knacker all attention.

Nobody's made the point yet how clever the BNP have been in repositioning themselves as an anti-muslim rather than just an anti-immigrant or anti-"black" party. And how stupid Respect and the SWP have been in putting themselves over as a pro-muslim party, so driving many "white" workers and now it seems sikhs into the BNP. You'd have thought that they'd have investigated more the cultural susceptibilities and, yes, prejudices of immigrant groups before getting involved in - and spreading - communalist politics.
