BNP on BBC Question Time in October

A perspective from right winger Peter Hitchens on this issue.

This need not be a disaster, especially if it is preceded by proper TV and radio grillings of Mr Griffin, by interviewers who have briefed themselves properly about his past, not least his remarks about the Holocaust. I am travelling at present and need to be brief, but I'd like to make a couple of points. First, I suspect Mr Griffin would relish being on a panel with the usual bland robotic party spokesmen and women, who would make his point that the establishment is dominated by elite liberals with no idea of what the world is like. He would have a much harder time against outsider Labour and Tory MPs, ones who have been prepared to speak against multiculturalism and uncontrolled immigration, and, for instance, Sir Andrew Green of Migration Watch, who has for years made an entirely respectable and untainted case for migration control.

I also think his appearance with David Duke, and the words he used there, should be calmly and firmly put to him - the event is available on YouTube, and he should not be allowed to avoid explaining what he meant. That done, I suggest that he should be put on the spot on all the policy areas on which he has little to say, or his policies are mere slogans.

The stuff about David Duke coming out on a programme like question time would be great. Peter Hitchens is right that he would run rings round some of the Liberaly establishment figures. Personally id like Joe Pearce to go on there with him or perhaps Martin Webster.

My mate who is sort of liberal although no doubt a fascist slavering neo nazi by the standards of Urban, who used to work for Yougov, said when he went to party conventions with them a few years back, by far the nicest two 'famous' journos he met were Peter Hitchens and Routledge from the Mirror. As in most down to earth, most willing to have a few pints, etc.

That's not with regards to anything in particular, but I do think Hitchens is at least slightly more human than most of the other Wail columnists...

Mr Hitchens sums it up well in that blog entry. He'd be a nightmare for Mr Griffin because he holds genuine versions of many of the slogans the BNP man bandies about, but is demonstrably free of racial bigotry. He can make the crucial separation between criticising immigration and promoting unhinged racial supremacy, a distinction that eludes the BBC, who seem to think the views are the same. They can be linked, yes, but it's far from automatic.

The one time I met Mr Hitchens he was very polite and restrained in the face of provocation from people who seemed to have a caricature of his views in their head. Someone that cool under fire would be ideal to take Mr Griffin's sub-Powellite rhetoric apart without descending into an emotive screaming match.

. Personally id like Joe Pearce to go on there with him .......

That would be interesting, as Pearce seems a genuine convert to antifascism

Howver, there may be little chance to criticise the BNP at length or to pack the panel or audience with opponents who will ask awkward questions.

Dimbleby is unlikely to allow questions which are not related to the weeks main new stories

Not sure about what you mean by anti fascism? But JP is interesting as he has at the very least renounced all his fascist ideas. And moved on to be a catholic priest ( I fink) in the USA.
Griffin would really not like to argue with him.

Thing is about Pearce he was genuinelly popular on the far right in a way Griffin never has been. And he will also know all about Griffins past support for muslim terrorists!!!!! Which i think would be good to raise on question time.

If Urban had its way we'd be looking at a panel with Joseph Pearce, George Galloway, Peter Hitchens, and possibly Tony Benn as a half-time sub.

Would make for an interesting edition! :D
