Kameron mentioned this to me at the weekend.
Kameron has been beating people about the head trying to get them to come to this for months. I've become a positive bore on the subject.

Breath.

Looks like it's going to be DnB vs Techno for me.

If it was any other venue I'd be sold but I find Corsica a bit wanky :(

e2a Actually looking at the line-up it's not really me anyway :D

im tempted by this and the interakt/combat night... hmmmm 2 nights at corsica is quite unthinkable

Interakt/Combat 'Deviant Dubs' this defo wins my vote , the Bug & Benga is playing, hope to pop down. really wanna hear their new funktion rig kick ass.

My main gripe about Corsica is the back yard, it smells of mouldy chips............

You copied it off my myspace didn't you?! Admit it!! :p

I did not!

Anyway, it's not our line, it belongs to Malcolm.

I've been up since six, I've had a week of broken sleep and I've no idea how I'm going to stay awake tonight. I may need assistance. If I start gibbering and clutching people's hands for help getting across the dancefloor, just help an old lady out, eh?

I'm knackered too. Just spent a few days walking and walking and walking. Plus late night last night due to airport gremlins. But nothing's stopping me. See you all there.

almost everyone else was shit. Legowelt was just about OK.

Surgeon was genius but it was almost like most of the crowd didn't get it somehow. hard to explain. but he was actually funny in places and nobody batted an eyelid

I loved Legowelt's set, it completely did it for me but when the Surgeon was on I kept popping in and out for the first hour but the crowd weren't going at all, sounded great but I was in the downward spiral by that point and not really prepared to make the effort.

I've the crowd at Corsica a bit unenthusiastic before I saw DJ Assault being fucking amazing there, no one was impressed.

I had a good time, although that was more to do with the company than the music. I enjoyed the James Stinson tribute set (thanks Mr Bleep!) but the rest of it just didn't make me feel like dancing. It wasn't the fault of the DJs, they were fine, but it was the kind of music I enjoy at home and not on a dancefloor.

Wouldn't have minded something else to look at other than the DJs – no lights, no visuals, just two dark rooms. I was listening to that woman in room 2 and found myself staring at the Apple logo on her laptop because there was nothing else to look at :(

That sound system was absolutely lovely though

That would never happen with Country Bass.

Yoss would be on the maracas for a start.

Yes, there was a point in the evening where I just thought: "Sod Detroit – what about Barnstaple?"

Thanks to those who came down. We like it as dark as possible in the rooms - it makes for a better atmosphere we find, as people can lose themselves. The venue's in-house lights aren't particularly brilliant, as they're more orientated for gigs, and we all hate visuals that don't have any specific relation to the music itself. The images we do choose tend to be quite abstract, but try to create a certain atmosphere.

I can understand what people were saying about the crowd perhaps not being that responsive to Surgeon, but I've found that usually it's because they're listening quite intently. He can be quite hypnotic, and when the sound is as good as it is in there, you find yourself quite happily just listening.

i see what you're saying, but when he was really going for it it seemed people were more disinterested than really involved. I'm just used to seeing him play to a much more enthusiatic crowd (and I don't mean a bunch of gurning ketmonkeys :D )

I love the darkness too. You get much more involved with the music. And everyone I know or spoke to were really into it, so I don't understand the comments about the crowd. I thought all the acts I heard were great, especially Jochem's - I don't like all techno nights - I require a variety of music, otherwise it becomes a bit monotonous. Surgeon was spectacular of course. Dub - maybe your comments about the 'unresponsiveness' of the crowd was because you're used to seeing Surgeon performing to festival crowds, who are always more bacchanalian (mainly because they're on more drugs, but also because of the nature of festivals themselves). Top night, as ever. Can't believe that those who came just for the techno left before it came on - you're lightweights and you need to open yourselves to the possibility that there may be a world beyond techno) :p

I understand the rationale behind keeping the rooms dark and appreciate it comes from respect for the music, which the DJs certainly had and knew how to represent in their sets. But a darkened room was too hushed and reverential for me. Even if I love the music, I need a little more to heighten the experience because DJs and laptop artists are so utterly boring to watch, even if they're playing music you love.

So you can wave at them ;)

Surgeon cracked me up - I was having a little rest and he played the loudest noise I've ever heard in a club - totally taking the piss, making a massive racket without any beats and it got no reaction at all :D I nearly fell off the stage laughing - I'd expect the crowd to be SCREAMING back at the noise but they milled about instead :D

I like him - he's amusing. Was a good night once the little speccy man came on.

I don't want to watch DJs, but I need something other than the backs of people's heads to look at. It's a bit flat, no matter how good the music is.

Sorted  ;)

I spent the evening outside chatting bollocks to anyone that would listen :D... I could hear it but it didn't grab me and make me want to go in to listen to it.
