Bleak House

Missed the first episode and was only half heartedly watching the second due to incoming and distracting texts...can anyone give me a brief synopsis?

Well I love it, the lighting is really well done, it accentuates charles dance's evil side and gillian anderson's beauty, she's really an incredible looking woman isn't she?

I loved johhny vegas in it too, even the fluffy grey cat deserves props.

I'm addicted to this now, pefect winter telly :)

Yes I love it too- definitely addicted now :D

I reckon Dickens would be delighted with this - he wrote for thrills and they were published in serialised parts in a magazine I think. He practically invented the cliffhanger :D

If he was alive now he would write for television and not even bother with books. Which would be sad because I love the books too.

I didn't like the camera-work, the editing, or the shadow composition (lighting was fine. Character and camera placement wasn't). I found it very off-putting and intrusive.

Just finished watching the first two episodes and loved it. The way they speak and the names fitted the characters/actors. The cutting and the zooming through frames helped to keep it tight and the viewer focused. Can't wait for the next episodes.

I loved the camera work and the shadow composition but the zooming combined with the eerie sound effects was a bit off putting kinda like bleak house meets the x files. I imagine it will appeal to younger viewers and may even inspire them to read dickens, so overall I think it's

I've been listening on BBC7 to a re-run R4 'Classic Serial' Bleak House...excellent...incredibly dark and atmospheric with really clever use of sound.

You can find the whole novel here.

I had to move away from the radio tonight (last episode tomorrow) I know the story and my husband doesn't and it got a bit unbearable for me because I know what's coming .... it's bleak.

Jean Marsh is brilliant in it as Miss Flite.

I love it - but I'm a sucker for period drama, especially Dickens.
The only thing I don't like is the crime/x-files type noises that accompany the links.

Is Guppy the mechanic guy in Eastenders, sounds like him - my thirteen yr old daughter thinks I am losing it!

I think it is absolutely brilliant - don't mind paying £120 a year just for that (and programmes about penguins)

I found the episode tonight very moving. :( :) Gillian Anderson is brilliant in this.

Does anyone else want to shout at the Esther character and tell her that Denis Lawson is in love with her....she should snatch him up I think he's a bit of alright even though he is now in the autumn of his life. I love his character in this series as well.

He feels unable to tell her cos he is her guardian and is bound by rules of propriety - silly fool.

No I havent :o

Just you wait - lots of surprises in store.
This is the best Dickens adaptation yet (on telly that is - no-one will ever beat Lean's Great Expectations)
Martin Chuzzlewit runs a close second though
