Blatter - Does he care about the game?

So Sep Blatter is going top propose an extra 5 minutes at half time increasing it to 20 minutes.

So there must have been a rational arguement that made him think that this is necessary. You would think so anyway.

Is it for the Good of the players? noooo
Is it for the good of the fans? nooooo
Is it good for the TV Companies and advertisers? DING DING DING

what fucking planet is this bloke on. the head of Fifa just thinking about the money maybe he is planning for his retirement, I'm sure the increase in payments would bolster his pension.

Seriously though who watches the bloody adverts? It's when I go to the toilet or grab another drink etc

An extra five minutes at White Hart Lane would mean there'd be a slight possibility of queuing successfully for both the urinals and the bar. Which would be rather nice. Not that this is Blatter's masterplan, of course.

I thought that was when most people left? meh you learn something new everyday

But seriously though thats the whole point he forgets about the people who actually do still go to games, it's not just about TV ffs. TV has too much control over the game now as it is, it will be like American F**tball at this rate we will be playing Quarters just so that they can advertise more frequently

The rules and structure of football have been largely constant for nearly 150 years; if it ain't broke don't fix it, and tell Murdoch et al to fuck off.

I'd benefit greatly from this. At half time at Ninian Park you either have time to queue for a pint, if you leave your seat 5mins before the whistle, or a burger, but not both. Extra five mins I'll have time for a pint and a pie, but would more than likely just have two pints.

Thinking about it, we'll be in the new stadium next year, so above scenario will be redundant. Bollocks to Blatter. leave as it is, in fact cut 5 mins off half time!

That's not entirely true. I'm midway through reading this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Inverting-Pyramid-History-Football-Tactics/dp/0752889958

which, aside from being a great little history, elaborates how the rules have developed etc... It's highly recommended. The most fascinating stuff has been reading about Sindelaar, the wunderteam and Danubian football in general.

Unless I'm mistaken, the length of the half-time interval isn't fixed, save that the players are entitled to a minimum of five minutes.

my own selfish point of view is that this would make it slightly more comfortable to sink a pint at halftime at Kenilworth Road. to be fair, it would probably enable the club to make a bit more money by selling more food and drink, but essentially i think 20 mins is too long for half time, you'd lose the tempo/atmosphere of the game and players would probably have to come out and warm up again!

it's all about enabling the TV companies to make more money through half time adverts - ITV apparently got £300k per minute at the last world cup, rising to £1m per minute for England games - KER-CHING!

And Fifa laughably claim the change would help players as "at some stadiums they spend much of the halftime period walking to and from the dressing rooms"

im in favour of it from the beer AND a piss point of view

hate it just as you've finished and are on the way back to your seat hearing a roar as someone has scored/ done something interesting

and you've missed it cos the interval was 5 mins too short

i don't understand how it would help advertising revenue anyway. ITV and sky both get two breaks within half time and neither of them feels paticuly short.

That said being asble to go for a piss and grab a pie without missing the first 2 mins of the second half wouldn't be a bad thing.

Seb blatter is a cvomplete cock. Theres loads of decent excuses to make a longer half time, but he comes out with advertising. What a knob. I can't wait for paltini to takew his job off him.

Isn't it always effectively 20 minutes anyway? Games certainly never seem to finish until 16:55. 115 minutes -- that must be 90 minutes + 5 minutes injury time + 20 minutes interval, surely? I've never known anybody to kick off a second half bang on 16:00. Or even 16:01, allowing for 1 minute first half injury time.

Sep only has one agenda. To see himself being talked about in the papers. Being famous helps keep him in gravy.

Hence controvertial suggestions such as women's footy should have sexier outfits and silly things like 20 mins extra time.

He's slowly running out of stupid suggestions to purposely get kneejerk reactions.
Only a matter of time before he suggests 1 ball isn't exciting enough and that we should have multiball rounds.

Ah, i'm sure he's got plenty more suggestions. Don't underestimate the stupidity of Blatter!;)
