Blakes Seven

Yeh, I reckoned those that walked out were just jealous.
:)

I saw him in it in Preston, I was very jealous :D :o

Thought he still had the old magic (but slightly odd teeth?) in 'the cult of' but fairly swooned when they played the clips, especially when he smiled / smirked

They wrote back to reassure me that Paul Darrow was alive and well and living near Guildford :D:D

An ex GF was a researcher on a TV Show called 'Open Air' back in the day. One day the phone rang at home while she was out. It was Paul Darrow. For some reason, and I never did wholly establish why this was, my ex had given him our home number.

Anyway discarding the implications, Avon and I ended up having a long chat about Blakes 7, and whether it might somehow be restored to us. I got the feeling he was the series biggest fan, its certainly the biggest thing he's done as far as I recall. Terry Nation was apparently writing more scripts, and I got fairly excited about that, but sadly nothing came of it.

Nobody famous has rung me at home since.

Surely Blake's 7 is the most obvious candidate for a Battlestar/Doctor Who type reboot? They'd need a few quid to do it right, mind.

Yup, and there's rumours aplenty that it's on its way to a revamp....

In a way, Firefly has already done it.

Firefly is probably the best sci-fi tv series ever made.

No, that's wrong apparently. She didn't realise at the time, she claims.

She is, however, most happy to live with the knowledge that she was the mastabatory fantasy of English schoolboys then who are now grown men (who look back on her ever so fondly!).

that's what i meant, she's happy now about stuff that happened then.

I've been watching these all on DVD - just got through the first series.

Im addicted to this show - I came to England in 81 so I missed it when it was on - te show is priceless.

Im at home on a (genuine) sicky and the first episodes of series 2 landed on my mat today (heaven) - looks great: I notice the cast have been given some more rugged outfits. Good move.

CAn anyone think of any other good BBC output from this golden period?

Not really a Doctor Who fan personally.

I watched Box of Delights the other day - that was great:

Check out the opening sequecne for Box of Delights here:

IIRC they used some of Nations' scripts for the handful of radio episodes that were broadcast in the late 90s-early 00s.

Can't believe I missed this thread first time around!

My one and only letter ever to the Beeb was about the last episode of Blakes 7 :D

They wrote back to reassure me that Paul Darrow was alive and well and living near Guildford :D:D

This is very true, he lived in the village where I grew up and I used to see him in the post office regularly.

I was also on stage with him when I was little - it was an xmas production put on by the village dance class I went to (run by a relation of his iirc) in which I starred as a little sick girl (not much dancing which was probably deliberate, I have 2 left feet) and he played Father Christmas who answered my Xmas wish to make me better, we had to hold hands and everything which was well

Although the whole Avon/Father Christmas confusion that resulted probably ruined Xmas for me forever. :hmm:

Godalming?

That's a great story, I'm envious!
