OopsYeah, don't like him either.
It did indeed. That seems to be one of the most promoted elements of the film, but (IMHO anyway) it's not the funniest by far - there are much more memorable scenes.I think i've only seen Withnail and I once about 30 years ago and was probably pissed at the time so don't remember it very well. It had the "camblewell (sp?) carrot" didn't it?
It's just the bit i remember. Its a long time since i watched it. Wonder if its on netflix? It did indeed. That seems to be one of the most promoted elements of the film, but (IMHO anyway) it's not the funniest by far - there are much more memorable scenes.

I think it pops up on the terrestrial channels every few years, but we have the DVD and I've seen it a really embarrassing number of times so don't pay much attention! It's just the bit i remember. Its a long time since i watched it. Wonder if its on netflix?![]()
The original draft of the script had the darker ending of Withnail - after saying farewell to Marwood - drinking wine from a shotgun barrel before pullling the trigger.the ending is cringeworthy but not, thematically, inconsistent with the rest of the movie.
Totally agree. You can't choose your family, and you can't choose the people who also love Withnail & I. Each time I rewatch, I am more and more impressed by Paul McGann's performance, taking nothing away from Richard E Grant.Haven't watched Blade Runner in decades. I suspect it looks a bit dated now, but I'll still look back and remember how impressive the dystopian future aspect looked at the time in the midst of all the shiny space epics.
No number of pisshead and pothead sofa wasters quoting and repeat watching Withnail & I will put me off that film. Just a genius script and brilliant acting. Thumbs up for the squalor too.
I once saw this confusing Spanish film that I think was meant to be like a homage or something to Blade Runner, it was a bit rambling and didn't really go anywhere for the most part. But I've never heard anyone bang on about how amazing it was, so I don't know if it really fits on this thread. I definitely remember Withnail & I being good, I have seen Blade Runner but can't now remember whether or how much I liked it?
Has anyone ever seen or heard of the confusing Spanish film that was meant to be like a homage to Blade Runner or something?
Automata ?
No, you're mixing him up with Harrison Marx, the communist porn magnateI think you're getting confused with Harrison George, who was the boss of the company that made Withnail & I.
