Black Cabs

I seem to remember that black cabbies had to get their licence from the police. Another requirement was a clean criminal record.

The London Cab Office was transferred from the Met Police to Transport for London years ago. There is still a requirement for a criminal record check (I'm not sure it ever was a requirement for a "clean" record, just that it was nothing to serious / extensive / recent).

First time we went to Rome, return flight was delayed by 5 hours. Got to Heathrow to be told a cab would be "£40, and I'm doing you a favour".

£40 to go 3 miles?

Fuck that

So I called my local taxi co and they picked us up and dropped us home for £12.
