Bjork - Volta

Mmm. As much as it pains me to say it, I'm not really enjoying this album so far. Whereas the previous albums had a mood to each of them and a flavour of their own, Volta (as said elsewhere here) is like a weird mish-mash of her previous albums. I can hear Vespertine, a bit of Homogenic... but it doesn't add up to a whole.

Even though I found Medulla hard to get into, at least it felt like she was taking me somewhere. I don't know where I'm going with this album. One minute it's African drums, then it's melodrama (I really don't like the duets with Antony Hegarty, then it's solemn brass... there just isn't the magic of her previous albums. She's not covering any new ground.

Bah.

I am still really excited about seeing her in a few weeks though

no, i agree the scary chicken on acid thing is not a good look but the concentric rainbow paper sleeves are pretty cool
