Steam has dropped Bitcoin as a payment option citing a combination of slow transaction speeds and price volatility.

Steam Announces It Is 'No Longer Supporting Bitcoin'

That's a rather big rat to scurry away from the bitcoin boat, might want to sell now Ranbay.

in the last month the number of coins has increased by 60,000 from 16.5 million but the number of wallets has increased by 1.5 million, doubling in the last year. And this is the result

I have a little bit of a Bitcoin, and the urge to sell it is strong!

Most of my crypto is in Litecoin though, with a little bit of Dogecoin and Monacoin for fun purposes.

I don't know them by name.

Get in before the rise! You wouldn't want to be out over the weekend!

LynnDoyleCooper It's a complicated world innit.

Just sold the little I had in Bitcoin for £50, which was originally about £25. Dinner out on hyper-techno-capitalism.

If it crashes I might put a hundred quid in or something. Then next time it'd be two dinners out.

I'd like to understand something: The young man i know who got into this years ago has according to him now got a proper fortune in bitcoins, enough to buy a flat in London. But even if he were to sell them all convert into cash and try to buy a flat outright he'd have a big problem with money laundering regulations wouldn't he?

    :(

The internet is full of numpties, either clueless or manipulative, proferring short-term advice on investments. This produces a number of well-worn tropes and cliches, amongst which are 'Get in before the rise!' and 'You wouldn't want to be out over the weekend!'.

If you think I'm offering actual advice on what to do with Bitcoin, or indeed if you think any such advice is worth following, you should put all your money in a cash trust and give someone power of attorney.

Dogecoin is 'cheap', but that is quite different to worthless.

Not sure what you bean about it being scammed.

I don't see this thread being like that though.

    why?
As long as he can show he bought/mined the bitcoins originally and where that money came from or that it's reasonable for him to have bought that much originally on his legitimate income, then he declares the income from the sale, probably with an accountant's advice as I'd say it'd be capital gains tax rather than income tax applicable but I don't really know. He'd get the transfer flagged for money laundering reasons certainly but it wouldn't really be an issue I don't think.

You're probably right, i don't know. But yeah the capital gains tax would be immense.

They can but they're in different forums.
Which forum should the merged thread be in?

The other thread, in world politics, was started earlier and I see bitcoins more as a social/economic interest than a computer one so I'd merge them into the world politics forum personally.
