Bitch about Lambeth Council

Oh how do I detest thee, Lambeth Council? Let me count the ways.

Ask me about Lambeth LEA, go on, ask me!! BASTARDS

:(

Now the only time I sit and count my blessings about Leeds LEA is when faced with realisation I could be living

a) In London

b) In Bradford

or C) someplace smaller than Bradford.

They just handed the contract back to crapita so not that unexpected. Crapita is teh shittest.

Didnt know that.Do u know why? (Apart from Capita being Nu labour friendly)

I've had a similar experience, them demanding money I didn't owe. Court summons, etc. etc.

I'd never take out a direct debit with Lambeth Council! Far too risky. You can't let them be in control. I just pay via internet banking every month.

We just noticed that Lambeth have given us a parking permit with the wrong zone written on it, which means that technically, we can't park outside our house. Although we've been doing so for the past three weeks, without getting a ticket. It's bloody lucky we haven't been fined, actually, as I've been parking in permit only zones in Herne Hill because I was under the impression that our permit was for that area, when in fact it's for Brixton at the moment.

So now one of use has to go to the parking office to sort it out, which will probably take about an hour. And they'll probably insist we take in the permit, which is a bit tricky when you've got wardens circling all the time in our street.

*sigh* And £160 for the privilege.

Are you sure you're not in a dual-zone street? Streets near the borders of zones usually allow both permits.

At least you have a CPZ ... Lambeth, in its wisdom, drew an arbitrary line when they implemented the Brixton E CPZ, which means my street is the first street outside the CPZ, and therefore the closest to all the tube stations with free parking. Can't park in my street, or the one next to it, or the one next to that ... grrrr.

We are, but we're several hundred yards from where it changes.

Hendo braved the parking office today, and actually got it sorted remarkably quickly as they were in a post-Xmas lull. Hurrah!

Actually I had to go to the parking office a few weeks ago for the first time ever (due to not owning a car). And it was an extremely efficient process.

Given how shit the council usually are I was in a slight state of shock.

Still since I've just moved house and they seem to have failed to have logged that so far they're still getting it wrong somewhere. :D

Lambeth have set out their budget for the next three years, including 500 job cuts and £46m of cuts to services, over a quarter of which will come from Children's Services/Children's social care. In particular, the Lambeth Health Education Link Service (HELS) is threatened, which provides health education to some of the most deprived children in the country, including FGM and mental health. Also threatened are school improvement and music services, and adult social care.

Fuck the tories for cutting funds to local Govt and fuck Labour for implementing the cuts. Cnuts all round.

Are they taking the fucking piss with their "...continue to campaign against austerity"? All the fucks have done is implement, implement, implement austerity cuts, while making sad faces and doing the sum of cunt-all to alleviate the effects of the cuts. They refuse to set an illegal budget - which would force central government to install oversight, and would reveal to the world and his wife that local authorities are being starved of funding - for the borough, and they're totally against raising council tax or even holding a local referendum on raising council tax. Useless right-Labour fuckpigs, the whole fucking Progress shower.

Whilst many are also sitting on massive a nest egg of reserves.

I challenged one of the cabinet early this year about setting an illegal budget. He claimed that "we'd go through our reserves in a week", implying that they had about £25 million in reserves. From what I can make out from recent FoIs, it's more like 30 times that, maybe more.

What do you think Lambeth should do instead ?
There is a very long list - which I'll type out when I'm sober ;)

But at the very least, I'd like to have seen Lambeth Labour look like they actually cared, rather than being willing participants in an austerity-driven cuts extravaganza.

I really wish Lambeth could find a way of accepting my money without causing me so much stress and anger.
Got a reminder to renew a parking permit. Can't do this online because Lambeth's website is so shite it's given me 5 different logins, none of which ever work, not even when they randomly post me confirmations of password changes I never made, on paper, by post.
Also can't do it online because the online application process still requires you send them paper copies of the original backup documents AND scanned .pdf versions. The online process doesn't allow you to attach .pdfs.

You then make 2 or 3 calls going round the houses at the "Service Centre" (*not accurately named) to make a set appointment to come in and do it in person, because the old drop in service was obviously far too convenient. They also want to know your DOB to make this appt.

So I downloaded and printed out an application form from Lambeth's own website, (following directions from its "Parking Permit" pages...) filled it in, and assembled the (large and annoying) set of supporting paperwork needed - V5C, Cert of Insurance, a bank statement + a utility bill (these last two not issued on paper any more so had to be specially requested...) and toddled off for my appointment.

Get into Olive Morris House 5 minutes before the appointment time.

The first touchscreen terminal to log in doesn't work, either not accepting your touches or delivering mmmuttlllitplle letters at random. Second terminal doesn't work either. Third terminal does let me enter name and DOB again, but now says it has no record of my appointment.

Queue up for 5-10 minutes to be told that I DID have an appointment, but I have 'missed it because I didn't bother to turn up in time'.

Breathing very deeply and talking very quietly I explain all the steps above and get buzzed through to see someone anyway.

Who then actually laughs in my face, saying "where did you get this form from? We haven't used these for ages and you don't need any of the supporting paperwork any more". but at least does take a 3-figure sum from me so I can park outside my home for a year.

FOR FUCK'S SAKE LAMBETH

And right next to me and all around me were people with real and serious problems (housing, health, education) being given the exact same shoddy, shambolic runaround about things that really matter.

still fuming days later.

I want to 'like' that post but it doesn't really seem appropriate in the circumstances.

aw, thanks Brixton Hatter - the sympathy is enough. Sorry for ranting up the space here. And I know it's hardly Lambeth's most pressing problem. It's just the amazingly new and different ways they can find to mess things up that get me...

there is a disembowelled fox next to the south bound bus stop across from groveway on Brixton road
quite a gruesome sight, and the bus stop will be teeming with primary schoolkids at 3:30
a phone call to Lambeth was made and their response was that the system is down, can't log the dead fox please try back later......

Contact South norwood animal rescue, could be the M25 cat killer who seems to have moved onto foxes recently.

thanks but I think it was a bit late for animal rescue
anyway the remains were still there at school leaving time
the council could maybe put a bit more effort into mundane shit like this
instead of vanity projects and hyping up the town centre regeneration
can't be that hard to sort out a mobile phone or walkie talkie for relevant departments
rather than relying on email.

They are collecting the bodies in partnership with the police. I sent them a message, asked if it appeared to be a traffic accident, or something else, could you please let them know? Could be important for the ongoing investigation. I believe council waste departments have been advised to inform police, rather than collecting and disposing of animal bodies.

So that will be the end of their excellent children's centres, which seemed to be the one thing they were getting right :(
