:)

UKNova (as I live abroad) is a godsend (hard to get onto)
Filelist for latest films and American TV (hard to get onto)
Oink for music (my ratio is 1.87 after that xmas leechfest :) (invite only, of which I've 4)
Demonoid for software and the odd stuff (bit slow)
Karagara for arthouse
MiniNova for anything else

Lets see how long it takes Dub to fuck up this account also! :D

Seriously though @ Loki - it's really easy to maintain a good ratio on UKnova, I've never really had to try like I have with bitmetv. Pick up any torrent relatively soon after it's been posted, and you can happily seed away. I've been a member for a couple of years and have a pretty steady ratio of 2.0 or thereabouts - 400gigs up, and 200gigs down.

The key is not to be greedy when you first sign up. I'm still "wearing in" my account at bitme, and have been really careful about what I've downloaded, even going to the extent of upping files there which correspond with files I've downloaded elsewhere.

Once that was working (still on a small scale) I've treated myself to series 2 and 3 of City of Men, series 3 of Kath and Kim, and left them open for nearly a month - they're so poorly seeded that when someone does finally hit them, I've had a very beneficial ratio boost.

I'd love to download the entire catalogue of "Soap" from the seventies, but it's just so big I'm going to have to bide my time for a while.

My ratios's stuck on 0.94 - with 856g down and 813g up - there's not much I can do about it but they're cool, only Oink are the bastards regarding ratio (and the hardest to get up).. Got Demonoid invites if anyone wants one.

I'd say you don't have too much to worry about with such a high volume of uploading... Blimey!

Oh, by the way - as you live abroad, you'll really like this not very well known site: www.stylo.tv - its run by a nice ex-pat chap who lives in San Fran. There's only about 40 members, but somehow he's got a direct feed into Freeview, which means that any show on any terrestrial channel or mainstream radio show can be scheduled for recording and then downloaded and viewed at leisure, either streamed or as an mpeg, or even directly as an mp4 for your ipod.

It's not bittorrent, so you don't need to look after a ratio, but he does ask for donations to pay for his outlay for bandwidth. (Works out at a couple of quid a month, which I'm more than happy to pay.)

It's a godsend for me, despite the fact I live in South London, as we've got crap Freeview reception. Have a look, and send an email requesting a sign-up if you're interested, it really is very good - especially for ex-pats.

Right, that's all true. My ratio on Demonoid is about 4.0, and i haven't made any special efforts to keep it high; i just let my files seed whenever i don't need the bandwidth for something else.

The problem, though, is that it is literally impossible for every member to do this. Because torrents are peer to peer only, with no central server for depositing files, by definition the overall ratio of any torrent site is going to be exactly 1.0. It is literally impossible, over all the members, to have more seeding than leeching, because everything that is uploaded from one computer is downloaded to another. It's a zero-sum game, and any torrent site that gets all pissy over a perfectly decent ratio like Structaural's 0.94 is run by a bunch of morons

Rather than stressing really high ratios, as some torrent sites seem to do, a much more logical rule would be to ask everyone to keep a ratio between, say, 0.8 and 1.2. That way, you can keep the real leeches out while also not frightening people into trying to get ratios of 10 or 20 or whatever. The presence of people with very high ratios actually creates leeches, because not everyone can seed to more people than they leech from.

That looks excellent, that's why I pay for a 20Mb line :) (Ms Struct is a telly addict). Unfortunately I can't find his email addy on that page or in the help :(

Anyone mentioned torrent damage yet? Borat d'led in 45mins for me last night!

If that was on demonoid it was probably me, I was uploading at about 600 KB/s for 20 hours.

Korean 100mb connection kicks ass!!! ;)

Just want to say thanks again!!! Been on demonoid for about 30 hours and my ratio is 11.08 :D :D :D

No problemo.

I use cheggit more than anything else, but its not ideal for everyone.

Oh, its not safe for work either.

;)

For ratio sites I recommend Bethere isp.

I have 1.3Meg UP and generally will have a positive ratio from the 1st thing I download.

I've been trying to get a UK nova account for weeks now. Arse.

Yep. Love it. Have got it at work too, with 2.5meg UP tis ratiotastic.

I've loved bethere this last year. Apart from some teething problems when they first started, I've had rock solid 18.5meg down for a year. And we love it!

Makes torrenting a lot easier.

Its a splinter site from the once great epornium.

puretna is a good one aswell.

;)

A ha. A quick look at Wikiwotsit tells me why epornium went all shite this year. BTW, Seems PureTNA is owned by the same tossers who now own empornium...
