Seriously though @ Loki - it's really easy to maintain a good ratio on UKnova, I've never really had to try like I have with bitmetv. Pick up any torrent relatively soon after it's been posted, and you can happily seed away. I've been a member for a couple of years and have a pretty steady ratio of 2.0 or thereabouts - 400gigs up, and 200gigs down.
The key is not to be greedy when you first sign up. I'm still "wearing in" my account at bitme, and have been really careful about what I've downloaded, even going to the extent of upping files there which correspond with files I've downloaded elsewhere.
Once that was working (still on a small scale) I've treated myself to series 2 and 3 of City of Men, series 3 of Kath and Kim, and left them open for nearly a month - they're so poorly seeded that when someone does finally hit them, I've had a very beneficial ratio boost.
I'd love to download the entire catalogue of "Soap" from the seventies, but it's just so big I'm going to have to bide my time for a while.
Right, that's all true. My ratio on Demonoid is about 4.0, and i haven't made any special efforts to keep it high; i just let my files seed whenever i don't need the bandwidth for something else.dogmatique said:Seriously though @ Loki - it's really easy to maintain a good ratio on UKnova, I've never really had to try like I have with bitmetv. Oh, by the way - as you live abroad, you'll really like this not very well known site: www.stylo.tv - its run by a nice ex-pat chap who lives in San Fran. There's only about 40 members, but somehow he's got a direct feed into Freeview, which means that any show on any terrestrial channel or mainstream radio show can be scheduled for recording and then downloaded and viewed at leisure, either streamed or as an mpeg, or even directly as an mp4 for your ipod.
It's not bittorrent, so you don't need to look after a ratio, but he does ask for donations to pay for his outlay for bandwidth. (Works out at a couple of quid a month, which I'm more than happy to pay.)
It's a godsend for me, despite the fact I live in South London, as we've got crap Freeview reception. Have a look, and send an email requesting a sign-up if you're interested, it really is very good - especially for ex-pats.
(Ms Struct is a telly addict). Unfortunately I can't find his email addy on that page or in the help

I have 1.3Meg UP and generally will have a positive ratio from the 1st thing I download.
