Billy Bragg?

I was actually listening to some of his stuff when I got home tonight.

I think he's brilliant. I love the Mermaid stuff he did with Wilco.

he's ok. i've enjoyed him very much when he's been performing by himself, but i reckon his songs suit a relatively minimal arrangement - with a full band i thought he was rubbish.

Not a massive fan but watched him play at the Reading festival a couple of years back. He put on a good show but every 15 minutes he would start shouting abuse at the dance tent claiming that it wasn't proper music

Some good songs - 5.5/10

i feel he's lost his way lately, but for the first 4 albums alone he's carved his name on my heart. The Saturday Boy is one of the finest love songs ever written

Billy Bragg will always remind me of the first girl I loved.

"here we are in our summer years living on ice cream and chocolate kisses/but would the leaves fall from the trees if I was your old man and you were my missus"

For that he is not crap. I also like that he tries to make a difference with what he does. though the past few years he is starting to sound a bit like my dad. not too sure about all that england/my england thing...

i love him.

i was sung his songs as i went to sleep when i was little.

his love songs are the most touching ever.

couple of years ago he let me take photos of him during a gig with really good humour

he also plays at some of the big woodcraft folk gatherings so he's  x 10000000000 in my books

Some pretty good stuff. Some not so good. At his best when he was raw and inspired by the Miners strike. Last saw him at a reading of the names of the dead organised by the Stop the War Coalition in Edinburgh. He didn't sing though...

I saw two shooting stars last night
I wished upon them but, they were only satellites
I'ts wrong to wish upon space hardware
I wish, I wish, I wish you cared

Excellent. For that song alone he is definitely not crap.

seconded. even just for that lyric.

Most resolutely not crap - saw him in 86 and he was a top top act. Haven't really heard mcuh of his stuff sine 88 ("Great leap forwards").

Aww, me too (he was a boy tho). Billy Bragg is always my fave glasto moment, probably because it now involves fair trade rum and I'm always twatted.

Absolutely not crap.

Most of the stuff after the Workers Playtime album has been shockingly bad imho- and I'm a huge fan :( :o
That said he still does all the old stuff live which makes it well worth going if you get the chance to see him...
The campaigns to get Mondays made part of the weekend and to reclaim the union flag leave me cold tbh...

I've never really enjoyed his music despite having been dragged along to see him on a couple of occasions many years ago. Don't like this sound of his voice either, probably an early indication that I shouldn't have bothered spending money on tickets (and I had to queue grrr).

I've always found him a bit fake and pretentious.

Whats wrong with the Monday thing?

Don't you WANT a lie-in?

I work shifts- if I have monday off I want the shops empty and the buses not as busy, should Bragg get his way then it will have ruined my week :( :p

tbh I think he should be concentrating on real politics but since he got into bed with BLiar he seems to spend more of his time on such trivial things :(

Each to their own and all that (and I understand completely about his voice being an ahem 'acquired taste' :p ) but fakeness/pretention is probably about the LAST thing you can accuse Billy of.

Particularly in his early years, he meant everything he said and sang ...

OK then, I'll continue to work 5 day 9-5 weeks and deprive myself as the promised and imminent!!! :p Monday lie-in, cos I care about your welfare like that :D

But I do agree with this generally speaking, BB has been off the political boil for a good while now.

Still, the likelihood of Blair granting more Bank Holidays and less Mondays generally is pretty damned low ...

From the little I've heard, I would have to say Crap (seeing as there's not a Very Crap option on the poll).
