I've never liked his music, and I've gone right off his politics, since he's obsessed with staying in the Labour party, and celebrating "Englishness"...

He's far from obsessed with staying in the Labour party, and his point about englishness is actually an interesting one: why not reclaim such things from the Far Right?

I've been compared to him once. I thought it was a compliment, as I like Billy's music, but then the guy said we were both "tuneless moribund cunts". At least he introduced a new word to my vocabulary.

I saw him at a STWC march one time. That was odd.
My dad - "Billy Bragg's behind us"
Me - "What?"
My dad - "Billy Bragg. Is behind us."
Me - *turns round*
"So he is."

Saw him recently and it reminded me how much I like him, and how long I've been a fan (saw his first TV appearance on breakfast TV in about 1983)...

He doesn't get it all right - by any means - but he's a thoughtful, decent bloke who's written some wonderful songs (and yes, I prefer the love songs to the political stuff too).

I think that's part of the appeal. For me it is, anyway. He's so obviously a genuinely decent bloke with some very admirable ideals that even when he doesn't write a great song you can't judge him too harshly for it.

I think he's brilliant.

(and he comes in for some stick in this months Viz, where he's seen wanting to lick the queens bum, then claiming he 'only wanted to lick the bum that sat and watched the 1966 world cup final).

That's bollocks - i presume you're basing that on the time he met the queen?

No. My opinion is based on an interview I recall in which he rhapsodised about the Queen and the Royal Family in general, which I thought very odd for a supposed Socialist.

My view regarding his singing is based on my experiences of hearing him play on stage.

I don't feel the two are exclusive. I have socialist leanings yet I like the idea of having a Royal Family because I see them as something akin to exhibits in a museum. I just wish they would be more awful in a more grandiose (and therefore entertaining) scale - as they are clearly capable of... instead of meekly pandering to public opinion.

What's that song he did about Rachel Corrie? God that was bad, I never got past "An Israeli bulldozer...." It was up there with Chris Martin writing 'peace' on his knees at Glastonbury.

I absolutely love his earlier stuff, and I credit him (along with the Housemartins) for getting me into politics.

Must I Paint You A Picture is one of my favourite songs of all time.

Most definitely Not crap.

The new album is great, as good as anything he's done. Always good to see him out there championing the good fight.

Shame there aren't more artists like him

I wanted to vote "liked a few" but the poll has ended, I didn't know there was a time control on these things
