Bikes on Planes

Ultimately, the best bike is something like a Brompton, which you may be able to sneak into hand luggage ;)

What kind of price is it to take one to Europe on the budget carriers? I'm holed up in Spain/Portugal for a couple of weeks and it would have been nice to have a ride on something other than the local hire scheme efforts that weigh 15kg plus. There's a 20mph tailwind here today and I could have been out handing the locals their arses on Strava if I had the trusty steed with me.

The On-One bags look the most bargainous. The dhb bag looks good too.

You should be able to hire from good bike shops as well - I know Brixton Cycles have a bag they rent out.

The appallingly named Pro Mega bike bag is the best in my experience. They have an aluminum frame that fits inside the bag to lift the bike up so it doesn't rest on the crank/big ring. I've got a couple and have flown CF bikes to Europe and back loads of times without any damage at all.
