Bike week again at Lidl & Aldi

Dude. Just buy yourself a bottle of Prolink/Progold oil. It's self-cleaning and gives better results than faffing about cleaning your chain and makes your chain etc last longer.

edit, this stuff, it's about 6 or 7 quid for a bottle

I'm crap at cleaning my chain... having to do it out the front of the flat doesn't help :o

Of all the keen cyclists I know (yes even ones with gears on their bikes) none have ever needed or owned a separate bike stand.

So fucking what? Why does that make you feel the need to judge the ones that do?

I said it made me laugh, and it looks a bit flimsy. If you feel you need it anyway then go right ahead. Just pointing out that my initial reaction on wanting to sort the gears on a bike is 'oh I must go get a stand made specially for it'.

I don't bloody need it, I fix my bike at the shop. On a stand. I don't have anywhere to put one at home. But if I had a garage and didn't work in a bike shop, I would get one. Sue me.

I paid over £100 for my Park PCS-10 it stores easily and I use it in the front garden.
I can see myself using it once a week for the next 30 years at least - by which time I may well need to switch to an electric recumbent trike and need a different sort of repair stand.

That sounds quite dangerous! Those things never look safe to have in traffic even with the little flag!

I'll have to clean my chain again first won't I? :o :D

Tbh something ain't right about my chain/gears atm anyway.

unless your chain's really filthy you can just start using it - it penetrates really well

I wipe it down quite often, but it ain't sparkling, but not black either. There is something wrong though, my front derailleur might have just shifted a bit :hmm:

show me a bike shop where they turn the bike upside down to work on it.

classic move of the failed home mechanic is to flip it before letting me touch it in a "i really do know what i'm doing" way so i have to right it to put it in a stand

is that prolink/goldlink stuff the one that was developed for mining?

Just acquired a pair of their shorts (Lidl), very comfortable. The Polaris ones I had were a bit raggedy.
So far so good(two hours riding in them;))

are they the ones with the annoying bands above the knees? got them last time if so
padding is handy mind

I bought some, and it is like magic. :)

I'm not 100 percent convinced yet, but then I just put it on top of what was already there, but I'm fitting my new crankset tomorrow so we shall see.
I'm feeling some roughness at the moment ...

Bump!

I'm looking to buy a helmet and Lidl / Aldi are probably the best places to get one.

If anyone spots a bike week I'd appreciate a nudge via this thread. I don't have a local store so I always end up missing them.

Ta.
