Bike Stolen :(

Glad I don't live in london. The last time i got a bike nicked was when i got a chopper and it was nicked from outside the sweet shop

I'd never ever buy a brand new bike and leave it outside, its becoming like a car or a motorbike. Even the couple of hundred quid I spent on the one i have is pushing it.

I think I'm going to go back to the shit looking but lovely ride of the 17 year old Cougar. Just need a new set of forks.

I'm surprised that nobody has come up with bottom bracket and hub locks.

two decent locks will make a kid move on.
Unless youre talking about 16mm links then youre talking shite

Besides, you don't need to chop a frame to get the components off - you need a set of allen keys..
And time:rolleyes:

Fucked if I'm spending money on a bling frame and then ratting it - I'd rather buy a 2nd bike that I could deal with getting nicked.
Yep your choice, but I dont spend £1k on a bike to look at it;)

For those of you who dont know how easy it is to nick a bike.

Oh thank you, I'd never have thought such tools existed otherwise:rolleyes:

Perhaps in your rush to poo-poo my post you forgot to think that by saying 'decent locks' I might have meant D-locks.

But thank you for the assertion that I'm 'talking shite', lived in London 14 years and never had a bike nicked - maybe I'm lucky but I'm not that lucky. I stick by what I said - if you have two decent locks on your bike the kids will look for a bike with just one. Pro thieves are a different matter and tend to travel in vans with compressor driven power tools - if they want your bike and can see it they will take it, no amount of ratting or any other stupid moves will stop that.

BTW I've never, EVER heard of or seen anyone saw through a frame to get to components - and neither has anyone I know.

Now now, play nice or you'll both have your bikes confiscated :D

To be fair gixxer, he did say kids. I wouldn't expect them to go wandering around with a fuck-off pair of croppers as big as themselves.

And from gixxers link to captain cropper :D, you find this one which is Captain Cropper trashing 5 or 6 Thatcham gold approved chains within a minute each (OK, longest was 63 secs!), all supposedly rated for 5 mins.

Bikers, watch this one. Your own chain might appear in the leading role :(

I'm just waiting for chris to come back on the thread all gidddy with new bike joy.

Define decent "D" lock then;)

One made by Abus.

Still no evidence of all these frames that were chopped up eh Gixxer? You wouldn't be sensationalising things would you?

Do you even ride a bicycle in London?

The lock in the first YouTube clip was an Abus

Was it an Abus D lock?

Was it kids or a pro with fuckoff tools?

Did they have to saw through any frames?

perhaps if you search hard enough you could find evidence of someone cutting any old lock with a paperclip...?

Oh dear, Ill get a link for you.

You know it all, :rolleyes: but for anyone else interested;

July Tuesday 24th at 19:30, ITV and Sky channel 993 will be showing a programme devoted to bicycle theft called "Gone in 60 seconds: The bike theft crimewave" It will be be damning for most of the main manufacturers of security devices.

I think ATOMIC SUPLEX helped make that programme

Do you have to be quite so dismissive?

The main points that SF made - ie that two decent locks will make a kid move on - and having a shit bike for dodgy situations - are both very good pieces of advice imo and helpful for cyclists in general.

Obviously there's exceptions to any rule and of course, if someone is determined to steal something - they'll find a way - or get nicked trying! (which is why I don't lock my good bike up outside at all).

Not willing to talk about these frames that thieves will cut through or tell me if you ride and lock a bike in London then?

Frames have been cut, yes and I ride a PWR in addition to a bike, whats your point:confused:

I'm with SIg on this one.. decent locks are essentially only a deterrent to casual thieves.. the pros will take anything.

And wow, steel really does make a difference to the comfort.. the Acciaio just feels loads more, I dunno, elegant than the Italia.

:cool::cool::cool:

can you explain this? Firstly 'frames have been cut' - do you have any evidence of this - can you pull any miraculous youtube clips out of the bag perhaps, thats you debating style after all.

PWR - whats that (Pressurised Water Reactor?) Is it a bicycle? Do you lock it up in London? Has anyone tried to saw through the frame?

Just trying to see if you're talking from experience.

You obviously have a problem, protracted arguements on the internet with complete strangers, that appear to be trying to get personal arent my style.

Yes Im aware of a frame being cut, but you arent so it obviously never happens, whats the point in continuing. I mean how dare I disagree with you?

BTW PWR( ) should read PTW;)

no, just issues with people telling me I'm talking shite and generally going on trying to score points without engaging in the subject - and I'm guilty for wasting too much time on you.

Still don't know what a PTW is but I do at least know you're talking out of your arse.
