Bike Stolen :(

My bike was removed by the police in Parliament Square not that long ago (a 'security risk') - whatever they used went through my Abus D lock like butter.

Is it worth the extra £100 to get Veloce? Mirage was fine for me before..

Veloce shifters are a bit nicer but the rest of the gruppo is only slightly heavier in Mirage than Veloce. Mirage is very black though.

They're a bit cheeky charging £100 extra, a Veloce groupset is only about £60 more...maybe ask them if you can go for Veloce shifters and keep the rest Mirage?

BTW for 2007 they've switched to 'ultra torque' chanisets and the entire range is now 10 speed (though they might still have 9sp in stock). Also the shifters work slightly differently, you can now upshift only 1 sprocket at a time - a backward step imho.

What a pisser, Chris - had two lovely bikes snatched before I concluded the only way to get round it is to have a fairly shit bike. It's no way to live.. :(

They'll nick anything though, a friend had a 1930's fixed wheel butchers bike nicked about 10 years ago (before fixers were trendy), despite being worth about £10 they had it.

Maybe they'll have some Italia '06 going cheap? Doubt it.

So you'd rate the 06 over the 07 then?

In reality I don't often shift up more than a gear at a time, so could live with it.

Will ask them at lunch, cheers Sig

quite a lot more likely to go to the effort of getting though a good lock if it's an expensive bike though.

This is true.. but I couldn't live with a lesser bike now.

I'd always be gutted about the theft and begrudge every slow mile I did. I'd have a constant 80's montage of me and Condy living the good life in my head.

That's no way to live, no way at all.

I sympathise with you mate. A couple of months ago, my bike was stolen from my locked shed, along with some stage lighting and some of my dad's stuff. I even saw the scrotes who broke in too. The police have been utterly useless.  :(

Yeah I think 06 is better, functionality wise anyway. Plus 9sp chains and cassettes are cheaper, but I have 9sp on the crosser and 10sp on the roadbike and they're both better than anything $himanNO!

The upshift thing - that was a great feature, being able to shift up from 10th to 18th in one go, I really think they'll rue leaving that out.

Just seen this:

truly versatile bike that can carry you into numerous areas of cycle sport. From an
occasional road race and long training rides on to epic days through the mountains,
the Acciaio makes almost anything possible.
Steel is a fantastic material to build a bicycle from as it offers light weight, excellent
rider comfort and fatigue life span second only to titanium. New for 2007,
Dedacciai's Zero Replica tubeset exemplifies all of these qualities, and produces a
frame as light and responsive as many in aluminium. Steel's trump card is comfort
and a ride quality that frame builders strive to replicate in other materials.
Also new for 2007 is a slightly longer head tube to make perfect fit easier to attain
without sacrificing front end rigidity. This 'Sporting Geometry' features on several
more of the 2007 Condor range. A Black Force 4 full carbon fork and Squadra
finishing kit emphasise the Acciaio's sporting credentials.
A cutting edge bike extracting full potential from a traditional material.

£100 more for a steel frame.. worth it? Actually, they don't do that as a crosser.. although, I'm sure they could make it a crosser.

The Acciaio got great reviews in C+ recently. Is steel worth it? Certainly at £100 extra yes as Dedacciai tubesets are really good. Its a bit more of a laid back bike than your Itaila though, you may miss the sharp feel of the Italia particularly steering wise...though you may also prefer the comfort of the Acciaio...time for some test rides I reckon.:)

oh right well not freezing spray then, bolt cutters or an angle grinder.

Large Bolt cutters will do those abus locks.Sorry to hear about your bike Chris, get a cheap fixie I say.

I see.....I was hoping that my (v. expensive and with v. expensive forks) mountain bike had been rendered unnickable - I've taken all the graphics off, randomly sprayed it pink and covered it all over in Disney kitten stickers. I haven't replaced the seat even though it's torn. I use two different kinds of lock (as Crispy suggests). Perhaps I've just been lucky or perhaps they don't appreciate Disney Kittens in Tottenham.

<crosses fingers>

i feel like booby trapping my bike, but don't, because it's against the law and could be very dangerous, especially if large amounts of Semtex were involved

My beautiful, beautiful Condor Italia has been stolen.. in broad daylight, in front of loads of people :(

It had 2 £90 locks on it, and I checked it was ok no more than 5 mins before. Incredibly how they got it. I thought it might be the council as it was chained to railings, but the woman on the phone said the council wouldn't have done it.

I loved that bike. I'll never forget you Condy :(

New bike though... what to get: cyclo-cross or fixie?

The guy sitting next to me is just making a programme about bike theft as we speak. He's been putting GPS in bikes and waiting for them to get nicked. It's really interesting. Yesterday a small gang nicked a bike, he followed them and they went from bike to bike really fast just nicking all day.

This guy has also been testing locks and basicly even the massive ones were pretty easy to get though with bolt cutters.

The other interesting thing he did was to get out massive bolt cutters and angle grinders etc in broad daylight in really busy places and break his own locks off his own bikes. Not one person ever questioned what he was doing or even looked. This was all in places like oxford circus etc.

New bike has been ordered :D

I've spent a lot.

Got a Accaiao, Mirage groupset, Veloce shifters. Vento rims. Compact chainset. White tape, white SPD SL pedals, a Fizix(sp?) saddly with a white stripe and a carbon seatpost. It looks properly sexy. Which means properly nickable, I know.

5 week wait though :(

I wonder if he filmed them nicking mine? Does he know where they took the bikes? Where do they sell them? I'm getting a new one anyway, but it'd be nice to shoot the thieves. Or at least throw things at them.

Sounds good. The 07 Ventos are great wheels for the money, compact is definitely the way to go over triple and sounds like you've invested in a Fizik Arione saddle, which is v comfy but also ultra pimpy.

you have my sympathies mate. it's horrible when your bike gets nicked.

glad to see you've moved on though. ;)

Yep, Arione Tri... quite an odd shape. Only got it so the white stripe went with the tape ;) That's pretty much true, but the guy did say it was a lush saddle and that all the Condor lads use it, so I thought I might as well.

Frame is a 61cm.. I'm sure my last was a 58cm..
