Bike gears keep slipping

Points taken. I originally bought it at Halfords because my daughter picked it out there from amongst the huge stock they hold, and the price was heavily discounted. When it went wrong I got them to repair it for free. I do use my local bike shop for my own cycling needs, (Marshalls of Hertford, they're excellent), but when you've got kids and a low income....etc..etc...

The guy who fixed it was ok. I wouldn't say he was a "chancer" and he even looked over the rest of the bike and re-adjusted the brakes for nothing.

For that reason? I've no idea. It's because they don't seem to have a clue, and that comes at the expense of the local bike shop (LBS) who does. They're a box shifter by nature, and even worse than many of the big bike shops like Evans, and so using them means (a) you don't get good advice or value, and (b) the LBS lose trade for no reason - and I need my LBS to stay in business if I'm to keep riding!

Halfords have also been known to assemble bikes arse backwards. :D
