Just blame every other road user, rather than taking responsibility for your own actions. Its easier that way.

How about pedestrians abide by rules that actually bloody exist? The accident rate would plummet.

The only answer is for everyone to have to pass a test in Highway code basics, otherwise they are not allowed to use public thoroughfares without an escort or wearing reflective clothing marked clearly "avoid me I may not know what I'm doing". Needless to say, the more advanced your needs (e.g. horse/bicycle as opposed to pedestrian), then additional tests will need to be passed.
 
It's something of an ambition of mine to pass the IAM car test so I can attach a badge to the back of my pushbike :D

Or even better - everyone is encased in a 200 foot diameter 'accident limitation sphere' made of bubble wrap:D
