Any court case which involves national security will have many media restrictions and will probably be restricted from public viewing as well.

I think you'd be surprised at how few trials actually do get held behind closed doors or do have reporting restrictions for reasns other than the interests of justice in future linked cases still to be heard.

I forgot to respond to this thread last week after speaking to my journalism tutor, but better late than never.

He had been looking through the papers on wednesday and found this last friday:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/diary/story/0,,1926733,00.html

which was followed by this on the wednesday:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/story/0,,1930609,00.html

which makes it all look like a bit of a cock up on papers' part rather than any kind of conspiracy.

And for further follow ups:

Thought I'd update this just to tie up some loose ends. This case has now gone to trial and there's a few interesting aspects to it. Firstly the prosecution is seeking to convict on charges of conspiracy to cause an explosion and possession of explosives. Secondly there is no attempt in any article to refer to the two accused as terrorists. It can only be concluded that the targeted assassination of Tony Blair and John Prescott is not considered to be an act of terror.

probably trying to kill tony would earn you a well done and £50 from public funds at the moment :D
every so often spams come on other sites and complain about whats been said about there glorious leader.then go on to say how would you like it if I threated to come to the UK and shoot tony?
what follows is usually a barrage of invites and offers of help
Much as I loathe the bnp I don't actually take there terrorist capability's that seriously if the police had realistic evidence they were actually planning anything
rather than stock piling for armaggedon  they'd have been chargedwith it

Anybody who reckons the media are impartial after this incident will remain a plank forever in my eyes.

This just proves the far right bias in the media.

has anyone bought up that Ian Paisly would probly be in Belmarsh if he was a muslim? ditto for these two.

but of course, their giving them publicity and quoting what they say

How does this prove the far right bias in the media?
