Big Chill 2007

Really?:( I will have to report back after the event...
BTW if anyone wants to catch me I'll be VJing for TY on the main stage on Sat around 3pm.
Also look out for my lovely cameraman Boldi (http://www.boldeazy.com/) who will also be helping out.

I must admit I didnt really enjoy the big chill when I went in 2003, but this year I'm seeing it as a laid back camping holiday with entertainment.

I'm hoping there will be enough art, film and music to keep me occupied for 4 days, but its really more about the people I'm going with, chilling with them, having fun, chatting, boozing and wandering around in the sun.
I'm not expecting to get my freak on and mash up the dance floor to heavy dnb...but you never know....

i found it much less smug than the last two i went to there. It's still not a patch on when it was at Larmer Tree Gardens though imo.

saw some good music - Bonobo, Crazy P, Mad Professor, Konono No1 spring to mind - quite a lot of average stuff and some utter shite - Go! Team you are really rubbish, give up now.

went with a really good crew of people and we got proper wrecked and wreaked havoc

it was £2.50 for a 330ml can of Tiger beer though. actual proper skank that

food was good as ever, toilets were pretty clean throughout. fuck all security about though and i think there was higher than average tent thefts because of that - although i do laugh at the people who say 'they stole £200 in cash, my digi camera and all my drugs, i mean i only left it in my tent!' well hello!

oh and the weather was tip top and i didn't pay for my ticket which always helps.

The general consensus on a thread on the Big Chill forum seems it was enjoyed by all and was an excellent festival (if you're into this kind of musical vibe), the only real downer by some was the blatant cocaine/other hard drug use in front of children and the amount of rubbish that just dropped on the floor.

I was at a Larmer Tree Garden one (2001 I think) and it's way different from that, went to one in 2004 but it was on the rather large side. Always better if you're on the blag... :D

:)

And boy did I stomp that muddy floor...:)

Hospital and london elektricity...my god they tore up the place...4000 with hands in the air..kinda nice.

The big chill was wicked, lots good stuff at Fat Tuesday and the open air stage, plus Friday night dubstepping and DnBassing really set the scene.

The gig went well, Ty was cool, Cinematic Orchestra were ok, C6 was amazing, Hexstatic OK, the fim mash up in the media tent was amazing, pear cider was just lush and a bit lethal, toilets were clean, camping was cool, food lovely but expensive as was the booze, people were very friendly, lotta people dressing up as zebras, sumo wrestlers, brides, aircraft staff, dragons, ravers, lotta men in dresses.

All in all a really good weekend that was kinda chilled but also jumped up at the same time, many peeps commenting that it was 2 diff festivals in one.

:)

I think I'd have probably enjoyed the last Big Chill I went to more if I hadn't been to the early ones.

If you take kids to a festival, you will see people taking drugs. no point them moaning about it - but at the same time it isn't particularly hard to slope off and have a sneaky dab/line aways from sprogs.

Judging by the amounts of staggering people i think there was quite a bit of ketamine being sniffed as much as cocaine :D

Generally had a fine time, thank fuck the weather was good - I look like I just got back from lying on a beach in the med! :)

Music was much better that last time I went 2 years ago. Saturday was the best day for music (and one of the best single days at any festie I've been to) with Cortney Tidwell (w/ Lambchop), Piney Gir, Low, Juana Molina, Seasick Steve (ace), Hexstatic and my faves in the dance tent Black Devil. On Friday in the tent Loefah and Digital Mystikz, and elsewhere New Young Pony Club were good too, and K&D not too bad. Sunday was saved by John Shuttleworth, but after him I could happily have come home, as there was nothing worth a fart on Sunday night, though the Bays were ok last thing in the dance tent.

Gripes:
- £3.50 a pint would be ok-ish if it were Red Stripe or something similar, but for Amstel it was a rip. Same for the tiny cans of Tiger and Heineken at £2.50and that bottled cider. I understand that they won't sell strong booze because they don't want people getting shitfaced and possibly violent, but if they must sell piss it should be cheaper.
- moving the sanctuary stage up the hill made it a schlep to get to and there wasn't much on there worth making the effort for.
- the art trail was a joke.
- because of the weather we couldn't camp in the field adjacent to the dance tent - the main advantage of getting there early - but at least no-one else could either.

I'm dj'ing on the radio at BC on thursday night 11:30 till midnight. Get in the 24 North Cafe tent or come down to the radio station. May as well start by raving on the thursday night :)

Whose running the radio station these days, I was a runner for the last two years of it being run by the lovely vegan family (I'm rubbish with names)

as I've said before

Big Chill: Butlins for middle class drug users

My visuals got into the independent newspaper
‘On Saturday afternoon Ty spent an hour and a half getting the crowd worked up about British hip-hop and his brilliant backing singers.

He had the best visuals on the stages screen: Boris Yeltsin and Prince Charles were amongst the famous figures attempting various dance moves.’

Eh? I thought the whole point of going to a festival was being able to get shitfaced if that's your choice?

I mean, they 7% cider at the Lambeth Country Fair, ffs!

Yes but as its like editing on the fly in time to the music, the set list kinda goes out the window but I have a general feel for his music and the software I use allows u to select a clip and immediately see it on he screen so you can respond to a number of different cues in a performance.

Its called resolume.

they were indeed selling strong cider at the Big Chill, it was pear cider and absolutely lush, It was 7.4% the maximum limit for festivals I think and I couldnt walk in a straight line after 3 pints!!!!

And it was £3.50 a pint...well done the Brothers Bar!!!!

While you're there, will you get every copy you can find of the Big Chill's "We are ten" and smash it into a thousand pieces and then set fire to the remains so that no one will ever have to hear that fucking piece of self-congratulatory, smug bullshit ever again?

Thanks awfully.

I think that was reserved for the tenth anniversary three years ago. Didn't hear it at all.

Was a bit smug in places though.

I remember looking up and seeing Boris shaking his stuff - well done mate.

I had great fun, went with a load of the Big Chill crew and forum people who were without exception unfailingly good fun.
Got utterly smashed up, danced a lot, saw some good reggae and loads of dubstep. Usual festival business, all lovely.

wats that then??

i think u mean perry my dear
cider = apples, pears = perry
sorry to be pedantic, born and bred 'erefordian here :p

ive been away a while so was just reading this to catch up on what went down, ive got mates who no want to go every year till they die, they do live in ledbury though. eastnor is a superb site and i have marshalled 24 hours bike events there for the past 3 years. went to the 2005 chill which was ok, but like people say, it seemed middle class/ city boys'n'girls with coke. the idea is great with all the art y stuff, hell i'll probably end up there again one year. with plenty of my own local stash of cider tho by the sounds of it, oh and mayb some perry:p

glad u all enjoyed it whatever the crowds.

Yes of course Perry is made from pears (i wasnt born yesterday!), the Brothers themselves call it pear cider my dear..

Went last year, had great time, don't do drugs at all, but did eat my way around the world and had a much needed rest from cooking.

Stayed in the family field with 12 year old son, who was constantly 'thumbs-upped' for his 'INTERNATIONAL TERRORIST' t-shirt wherever he went. Son packed-together with some great kids (have fotos somewhere of him with Luke of Nizlopi). He and I had a 'best festival ever' experience.
Would love to have gone this year, but had other committments :(

...none of whom have budget to build a cider tent at festivals, believe me i've tried them all :(
there was a local cider available at the big chill (Lyme Down farm iirc) in 1 gallon flagons but it didn't sell very well, tho Brothers sold out. some people don't know their arse from their elbow
