Bicycle helmets

3 years max, why bother wearing a piece of safety equipment that makes you look silly and is unlikely to be effective?

To be perfectly honest I don't take helmets seriously where high-speed impacts is concerned - it's more to avoid painful bumps - so far the only bumps I've been protected from has been from low doorways.

In fact it's more of a hat.

I got a bit serious a while back when I saw the Bell Metro with its rain bonnets etc, but they didn't do it in my size. :p

So how long do you think you should keep a helmet before replacing it?
Not sure. In summer I have to regularly wash it to stop it stinking and that makes the padding fall to bits after about a year, so I replace mine then. It takes a bit of a beating over time, from bumping into low bits of trees etc, but I never think it's enough to compromise it. Maybe it is.

If neither of those things happened, I'd replace it maybe every three years.

Well, I meant that the helmet was 64cm but I just measured my head (admittedly with a metal tape measure) and it says 64cm. :(

I am such a freak. Me and Gentlegreen should join a circus. :(
I've just realised that 64cm is the circumference of your head. I thought it was the diameter! :o
